hello. i have posted this twice before and no one has answered :-(. my problem is that i have shoulder langth hair and i would lik it to be sleek and nice but its just fluffy and dry. it looks worst after i wash it. do i need to put beeswax on my hair?
First off, you will always have the hair you have, if you want it to look different you can use products to contoll it but the basic make up of your hair will not change. If you want control, use a setting gel, if you want it to look slick try frizz eeze, and use a big round brush and a blow dryer, you will need to used hair spray to keep it set, I would try to use a mouse or gel and then style it with a big brush and dryer, that may give you what you are looking for.

I have the same problem, here is what helps me. My hair is wavy and has lots of body too.
Do not wash your hair more than necessary- 1 to 2 times a week.
Use a shampoo for dry hair and moisturizing conditioner and after towel drying a bit, spray in a detangler. ( I use something made by Infusium.)
Comb the detangler lotion through and let your hair air dry. Do not brush your hair at all, that encourages fluffiness...I only comb my hair carefully.
My hair is curly and has a tendency to become completely unmanageable if left to its own devices. What I do is to wash it with a moisturing shampoo once per week. Also make sure that you don't pile your hair up on top of your head to wash it, that incourages knots. Wash it down. Some people say that you should really only wash your scalp, as the hair hanging down tends to be drier anyway and will get enough shampoo from runoff. I follow the washing with a good moisturizing conditioner. I comb the conditioner through with a wide tooth detangling comb, always starting at the ends and working my way up. Then I wait as long as I can before rinsing the conditioner out. I wash it with cool water and rinse with cold. That helps to make the cuticle lay flat and prevent tangles. Never expose your hair to hot water! They say that you should only brush your hair when it is dry. Bah! with curly hair, you should only brush it when it is wet! But be careful as it is very easy to damage wet hair. First I use the detangling comb to get any knots out. Again start at the ends and work your way up. If your hair is long enough to make getting to the ends in back difficult, then bring your hair around in front of your shoulder. After detangling, I brush it all out with a wide paddle brush.
Before I style it, I work in a generous amount of gel, especially on the sides and top. Then I style it in the way that I wan't. I find that I can get awaw with one more brushing when it is almost dry to prevent sausage curls. But I don't brush the heavily gelled parts. Once it is dry I do not brush it at all as that just makes it frizzy and wild. At most, several times a day, I will gently finger comb it to keep it neat and presentable.
Hope this helps
I suggest using Pantenes product called Smoothe and Sleek conditioner. I use this everyday and than wash it out and apply a leave in conditioner if your hair is thick you could use an actual conditioner that your supposed to wash out by product design, but just leave it in. I put Framesi Reconditioner in my hair as a leave in. And it makes a huge difference. I also finish it with using Alberto VO5 Hair Dressing. Its cheap and it works. Takes out the frizz and makes it smoother. And my hair is thick and curly. I never brush my hair when it is wet, I only use a wide tooth comb. I do not think I could Brush my wet fine hair, but I hope my advice helps and keep hair farming.
Big fluffy hair is the worst. I can totally relate with you. What I realized helped A LOT is to just not wash it a lot... believe it or not, I used to wash my hair once or twice per day. I hated my hair. I noticed after not washing for about 2 days or so it became much more flat, silky, and manageable. However, now I have a dilemma... I finished my second course of Accutane 2 months ago and now I can go for days without washing and my hair still remains very dry. It's been 3 days since I washed it and it's still dry at the ends. Really the only part that gets oily at all is the first 3 inches, near the scalp. I don't like to wash at all because it makes my hair like straw. My hair is shoulder length, slightly wavy.
Anyways, like everyone has said, don't wash very often. Twice a week at the most, just experiment and see what works. I, personally, hate products like gel and hair spray, and also detest hair dryers. Also, conditioners never did anything for me expect while they were in my hair. The hair feels soft after you rinse it but when it dries it gets as puffy and dry as ever. If it's good for anything, it's for keeping it from feeling as course, but in terms of dryness/puffiness... nothing.
Basically, don't wash a lot. Go a week or more if you can, as long as your hair still smells decent. After washing it, use a conditioner, rinse it out, pat your hair dry GENTLY and only a little bit. Don't brush it. If you find a product that works, use it, but don't brush or comb it in if you have wavy hair or if the ends tend to curl out. Just apply it with your hands and leave it.
On the subject of dry hair, has anyone tried pure jojoba oil? I've heard it works great, and it's all natural which I'm really into. I don't like all those gels and stuff witht heir synthetic ingredients and fragrance and so on. They don't work for me anyways. Does anyone know where I can get pure jojoba oil?
I also took accutane, and i found that after i took it, my hair didn't respond to gel or hair spray as well, or even at all after my treatment. It's been 2 years, and my hair is still dry and doesn't respond to gel, anyone know why this is? Accutane also caused a lot of other problems for me, so anyone with acne, don't try accutane first. Try other medications before you try accutane.
