Hi Scooper...just wondered how one "formats" a memory card...as you suggested?

You would format the card with the camera's setup menu before using it. Save any pics on the card before formatting by using the external card reader you mentioned previously. I mentioned my niece had some trouble with her camera/card. She took a lot of pictures, she could view them on the camera, but she couldn't download them. We eventually just formatted the card, losing the photos. I hope you have better luck!

As a last resort...I found the camera manual...buried in a file drawer and sure enough...it showed the procedure for formatting the memory card...and I formatted the card...and was able to download the pictures onto the computer. I did find that I had to insert the CF card several times in the CG/MD slot before it would work...so thanks for your help...Mission Accomplished! (and thanks to you other guys for your good suggestions as well.)
What are you using the memory card in? If it is a digital camera some cameras will format the card for you. Check the
manual for the camera.
You can also get a memory card reader for the USB port
and format it through windows.
