So I've been thinking...
Last night I watched "Being John Malkovich" and I noticed that there is a long-hair theme going on here, and I thought this was kind of interesting. I've seen plenty of movies, but none of them really stick out as having any notable male longhairs.
Since I'm on vacation and I have nothing better to do, I'm looking for any and all suggestions of movies with longhairs :D
Thanks,
~JeffL
Well, I know it's considered a "chick flick", but "Chocolat" is one of my favorite movies of the past few years. Johnny Depp's hair in that movie inspired me to become a longhair again.
Hi Jeff,
One can NEVER overlook the Lord of the Rings trilogy! Awesome hair and superb movies all around!

What's eating Gilbert Grape starring Johnny Depp is ok, well, I guess it was ok. At least Johnny Depp looked great with long hair. Too bad he doesn't keep his hair long.

A small list:
Gerard Butler in Beowulf and Grendel (not the new CG one)
Gerard Butler in Timeline
Gerard Butler in Attila the Hun
Daniel Day Lewis in Last of the Mohicans
Russell Crowe in Master and Commander
Shah Rukh Khan in Asoka
Brad Pitt, Eric Bana in Troy
Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall
Karl Urban, Viggo Mortensen in LOTR Trilogy
Karl Urban in Ghost Ship
Colin Ferrell in Alexander
Colin Ferrell in The New World
Sir Laurence Olivier in Richard III
Marlon Brando in Mutiny on the Bounty
All these men are the protagonists in the films.
That's all I can think of right now.
Here are some more:
Jukka, Jarppi, et al. in The Dudesons Movie (this is the kind of thing that you either laugh yourself silly or are repulsed by it.)
Gene Wilder in Young Frankenstein "It's Frahnken-steen!"
"The Hansen Brothers" in Slapshot
Jim Caviezel in The Passion of the Christ
Hugh Jackman in Van Helsing
Various Spartan warriors in 300
Karl Urban in Pathfinder
I'll probably think of more later...

Right now the long hair movies to watch for are the new
Hobbit films coming in two parts in 2010 and 2011.
For a good example see the three Lord of the Rings films.
Jeff, Sam Elliot in "Mask", Tom Cruise in "Born on the 4th of July", Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and especially Antonio Banderas in "Interview with a Vampire" and Jason Lee in "Almost Famous" immediately come to mind. Also check out John Locke in the 1932 Marlene Dietrich film "Scarlet Empress". She plays Catherine the Great and John Locke plays her confidant and lover. A great film that also features Sam Jaffe as Czar Peter III.
peace, jonalbear
just a correction! It was the actor John Lodge in the movie
The Scarlet Empress.
Howard Stern's "Private Parts".
He's "notable", right? :-)
Braveheart--lots of long hair action...and mullet action.
Wayne's World.
I've always been a fan of corny movies. One of my favorites is Conan the Barbarian. Just about everyone in this movies sports long hair.
One thing very insightful about that movie was that, when the longhaired guy was in John's body, he grew long hair even though it was just a fringe. The writers had picked up on the situation that being a longhair is a concept in one's identity, a concept in one's mind.

How about "Hair" and "Jesus Christ Superstar".
