Well, I suppose I could just re-grow my beard and try henna on it, but does anyone know if henna works and/or has any negative effect on facial hair? I really don't like the clean-shaven look, but I want my chin and my head to match! I haven't seen any drugstore variety beard colors that have any red in them. Suggestions?
Randy, same w/ me, salt and RED pepper beard! LOL! That's why I'm takin' a breather and I, too, am presently cleanshaven. But, as I've said B4, as summun whose hair has been through every color, literally, except black, best suited I believe for darker, swarthier complexions, may I allay your fears abt henna.
As you MUST know, all it is is a dessicated plant. You boil water, mix it up w/t powder, and ya get this muddy concoction. You're encouraged to keep it on 'til it dries as would a mud pack. There are several colours available. Egyptian red, Persian red, blonde, brunette, and black.
However, henna is temporary, washing out with subsequent shampooings. Be it known MY all-time favorite permanent dye, reeead chemical hair dye, is Revlon's "Color Silk" which colors each individual strand of hair its own shade of whatever the main color of the designated dye is, thus rendering a more natural appearance.
It's been three years since I've used dye on my hair. Whatever you decide upon, Randy, jus' keep in mind you're more 'an likely to always end up w/ a color you're not gonna be paticularly enthusiastic abt, not to mention that hair toners are very similar in their make-up to photographic chemicals (toners, developers, stop baths, et al), so, good luck. I hope ya settle on the right thing for you, whether it's henna or chemical.
Best wishes for the holidays and the right hair color and length,
Quenyan
Keep in mind that "roots" are very obvious on facial hair. They are not on top of your head, they are right in the middle of your face. You will be dyeing often to keep them at bay.

The henna will work, but be careful where you get it from. Some of it contains heavy metals from processing.
