G'day people..
For those of you who have followed my previous threads you would know I have thought about cutting my hair because I am concerned it may jeopardise potential dates with the ladies.
So what I have done is...
I have posted a question directly aimed at the mainstream female audience asking them to give me an opinion of whether I look more attractive with short hair versus longhair.
Majority of the female audience range from between 15-25 years of age I suspect and with a few over 40 to share their wisdom. About 57 women commented on my hair..
To find my question go to:
http://answers.yahoo.com/
In the question box type 'Ladies... can you do me a favour?'
My nickname is Lucifer.. you will find 2 links under 2 categories. One category is beauty > hair and the other is singles > dating.
The results... have been a wake up call me.
I read somewhere around this site that 90% of women find longhair to be a turnoff on a man. Thats funny because I almost had majority of the women prefer my longhair over my shorthair picture.
About 60% of the women preferred my shorthair look over my longhair HOWEVER if you read the opinions of the 40% who liked my longhair - you will discover they went a little more crazy about it in contrast to the ones who just preferred my shorthair. The 60% who liked my shorthair had no emotion or energy into their opinions... and some of them were unsure of what to choose.
You know what I think? the ladies who prefer shorthair on a man are just not adapted to seeing men with longhair so they think its a tradition a man should have short hair because very few men have longhair. If a woman says she is turned off by longhair... it usually means she is turned off by UNTIDY DIRTY longhair NOT well kept beautiful longhair.. they would go crazy about that.
If you want to grow your hair out and still be considered very attractive and unique by ladies then do your best to make your longhair look as good as possible. Make sure your facial hair goes well with your look.... with me I prefer clean shaken because the shape of my face and jaw just goes well with it. So get everything right, stay in shape, think positively...
and you will get nice responses like I did on yahoo.com
Oh and I'm not getting my haircut anytime soon either! I need to make it longer and better looking! :)
Peace

Perhaps those who express a short hair preference were parroting what they felt was "normal" or "acceptable".. that is they're allowing societal norms shape how they look at things instead of thinking for themselves.
Those who preferred you with longer hair are thinking for themselves ant the passion they express is real.
Now answer this to yourself: which kind of woman would you rather attract?
Lurkness,
Excellent post.. I think we can understand a lot about people by just knowing small pieces of information.. on how they act.
I think it is safe to assume all of us who grow our hair long on this MLHH board are not only individuals when it comes to hair but an individual when it comes to thoughts themselves.
People who believe men should have short hair also believe many other traits which are considered 'normal' according to society. These people do not like standing out amongst the crowd whether this means being a captain of a sports team, a public speaker, a musician like Marilyn Manson.
Say we have a scenario..
We have a long haired man on this board and for some bizarre reason a conformer style woman decided to date the long haired man after he cuts his hair off. The former long haired man is still an individual and resents cutting off his hair, however, his bitterness is blocked temporarily by the fact he is in a relationship with a conforming woman.
After a few conversations... the long haired man is discovering he is finding it very hard to connect with this conforming woman emotionally and mentally. The former long haired man doesn't mind rocking the boat and likes to challenge opinions and thoughts of others, however, his partner HATES it and likes to remind him of the way he should act and also reminds him of what he should believe. She discourages him constantly questioning certain topics... while she will just accept any piece of information put infront of her - especially if a large number of people agree with this information.
Heres the deal... individual personalities do a lot of self reflection and like to challenge old traditions. Conformers, on the other hand, do little self reflection. They accept the way things are and discourage anyone from rocking the boat... and more importantly they discourage you from growing as an 'individual'.
A conformer and a nonconformer in a relationship is like fire and ice. The fire will melt the ice until there is nothing left of you as an individual.
Now which woman I would rather attract... the one who prefers me with the longhair! I have rocked the boat far too hard and probably sent people overboard on topics besides longhair LOL!
A conformer wouldn't last a day with me seriously.
Thank you for sharing your opinion
Peace

I think you've done a excellent job of furnishing your own answer to the question of whether you should cut in order to attract a woman. There's a level of selectivity inherent in choosing your own style and holding out for someone who will appreciate your willingness to think for yourself. Compatibility between people goes way beyond a particular look.
I think many women choose longer hair when selecting men's photos but when asked the same question without the photo, they tend to say
they prefer short hair on men.
Perhaps it is fear of the unknown: when they can't actually see what the guy looks like
with longer hair they retreat to the 'security' of the traditional and select
"short hair."
For many women...seeing the guy is the determining factor--and not so much the length of hair.
Unless I am all wet on this one.
many seem to equate "short hair" with success. I saw a few responses like that.
it's all a matter of conditioning.
back in the late 1970s most of the women would've gone with the longer over the short every time.
I had an idea a few weeks ag to do a simallar thing on answers, abotu whether you had a better opinion of me with buzzed hair or now, but never did it
Now i think i will
Hey Beans!
Before you do this make sure you compare a good shorthair picture with a good longhair picture. You want a fair judgement from the ladies!
Let me know when you do this as I am keen to see your results too.
Peace
Forget the ladies thing, i'm 14 and not ver good looking to say the least i just want to know if i look better or worse after 8 months or so
I've done it now

Hey Beanz
Just some advice from a slightly older individual..
Try not to tell yourself you are not good looking because what you say and think to yourself determines the outcome of who and what you become as well as what you look like in the present and future.
Always think good of yourself and you are associated with fine people here. There is a book called - Self Matters by Dr Phil.. grab the book when you get a chance and have an attempt reading it.
If you believe you are good looking this tranlates into a healthy self esteem and people will begin to see you as good looking.
So far you have received many positive responses! and you have a bright future ahead of you.

It's all about how you ask the question.
"Legolas or Gollum?"
Hey dude,
Growing your hair out is up to you.
You don't need to listen to other's opinions on whether or not u should keep ur long hair or not.
Look in the mirror and ask yourself, Hey do I look good with my hair this length???
Think to yourself about all the positive prospectives of having your hair long, and all the negatives, compare them.
see which you have more of.
Always remember that, most importantly, you are your own worst critic.
Don't do things for others...do it for yourself.
If women don't like you because you have long hair, then they shouldn't even be worth your time since they are too focused on your outer appearence.
Believe me, what you do to your appearence should be your own choice, you will be alot happier that way.
Peace,
-Dee
So glad to find this place. I am always saying more guys should grow their hair out. Good for you! Personally, long hair on a man gets my attention more than anything else. Good luck and all of you, keep it up. It is not easy being different but know that there are those of us out there who love the long hair and there are girls out there (like me)who will pick you over a short haired guy any day of the week.
Happy New Year!

I think the answer is to find a woman who feels as passionately about you with your long hair as you do rather than cutting it in the hopes of finding one who's more interested in a guy with short hair.
I find that most women over age 35 or so are more accepting of Long hair on a Man than younger women who prefer really short haircuts.
I had a young female(early 20's) once tell me that I would look great in a "FADE". for those who don't know what a fade is it's a buzz type cut where the back and sides are shaved.
younger females weren't around during the seventies so they didn't get to see long haired guys growing up. they have been conditioned to think that long hair on males is either "feminine', "unkempt", "lack of personal hygiene" and/or associated with "drugs".
incidentally, this same young female had hair to her waist.
when I reversed the situation and said "you'd look really good with short hair" she got extremely upset and suggested that "Men are supposed to have short hair" and "women are supposed to have long".
"really?" I asked. since when are Men and/or women supposed to have any certain length of hair.
it's all a matter of conditioning.
