Hi guys. I was hoping some of you with curly or frizzy hair (or any other type for that matter)might help me. My hair is very dry and frizzy. I have to keep it in gel, slicked back, and tied up all day... I think this is mostly because the bangs experienced a lot of breakage and didn't get to grow like the rest (I comb it back a lot and always start with the bangs). I wash it every day with conditioner. But now I'm thinking of washing it once a week instead.
My question is, has anybody else experienced shorter bangs becasue of breakage? Did not washing it as often correct the problem? Also, would it be a good idea to wear a hat between washings (my shorter, frizzy bangs stick out when in a pony tail)?
By the way, to give you an idea of what my hair looks like, it's very frizzy and afro-like when dry... kind of like how some polynesian and pacific islanders have it. But when I let it dry naturally without combing it and apply a minimal amount of gel, it sort of looks like Kirk Hammet's hair from Metallica. In fact, there was a member here who drew the same comparisons (Helgast, or Helgar, I forgot). My hair looks similar to his too.
Suffering from frizzy hair,i just found a new way to prevent this: after i blowdry the scalp (not to catch cold LOL) i apply a conditioner-like product to all my hair (except for the scalp) and tie it with 2-3 tokens so that the whole hair is tied up (sorry for the poor english) after 4 hours,i release my hair and it looks kind of straight, with slight waves.
I don't know if this is a good idea or not,as people here know haircare more than me :)
and, about washing your hair everyday...my hair is dry too and washing once a week works fine for me.
But did this help with the breakage. I've found that my hair does fall off a lot more compared to other people... always has. That's just how dry and brittle my hair is. I've had the lady at the salon, my mom, and a lot of other people tell me my hair falls off too much. I know its not baldness because I still have a full head of hair, but its hard to keep it at a uniform lenght because it breaks off so much.
there are two things i can recommend: first, you can try avoiding combs and use your fingers to detangle. I saw curly haired people who never even combed their hair, and their hair looked better than others.
second, curly hair seems to be more vulnerable to damage. Damaged hair breaks down. Avoid anything that causes damage to hair (hairdye, using too much hairspray,blow-drying etc.)
I also heard that growth rate can differ from strand to strand.
