Just picking up from Kevin.C's point earlier.
I do have to agree with Kevin's point as we are trying to encourage people to grow their hair out here and there seems to be an increasing trend of "oh I'm going to cut my hair". Okay fine do it and it's your hair and do with as you wish!
Cheers,
John.B
I think what people don't understand is that if YOU want to cut it then you should do what you want to do. You can always grow it back after all. We can encourage people but we cannot force people, they must always learn on their own.

Good point indeed and we can only encourage people and not tell them what do and I'm not advocating we do that. This is a great forum and good place for advice. If not I might have cut my hair years ago lol!
Cheers,

I agree. When you see a new poster with something like that they are just half a step away from being a troll, and some of them may even be trolls.
When it's their one and only post I can almost guarantee that they are just dangling the bait in order to provoke the predictable response here that they seem to find so entertaining. The best response is none at all. Even this very discussion validates them in a sense.
... One and a half inches off my hair a few days back. The ends were trashed and had to go. My hair is still at mid back, but now the ends are nice and clean. :-)
Friends,
Whatever, I am inclined to think "Once a long hair, always a long hair." Some may experiment, but for others it is our identity, and I am inclined to think that there are lots of us who are still repressed and fearful of growing our hair.
Years ago, I used to be in awe of men with long beautiful hair, and avoided communication. Now whenever I see a guy with long hair and can say with some measure of discretion so as not to embarass him, "Admirable Hair."

The word is "dearth," and it does mean "scarcity" or "lack."
Maybe "plentitude" or "copiousness" would work better.
Thank you both so much for correcting my English!
Cheers,

I would tend to agree with this as well. The Hyperboard is all about growing ones hair out and giving support to those who have questions or remarking on their updates as the months and years go by.
The guys here in the past have bent over backwards trying to help out someone who was having 2nd thoughts or was being harassed because of his hair. And it used to be that with this user that he was very well known on the board and had been posting for quite sometime. Comments were needed by this user as he was very unsure and this was his only refuge where he would be understood.
As for those never heard froms before that suddenly say they have been "lurking," they probably are just looking for attention in many cases as soon they seem to vanish and never are heard from again. Probably they enjoy seeing guys comments trying to beg them not to cut or do what makes them feel the best.
This board is all about Pro Long Hair. To start a thread saying "I'm going to cut my hair" especially from an unknown is very strange indeed.
Perhaps someone someday will form a site called" "I'm Going To Cut My Hair." Hmmmmmmmmm...............wonder how popular such a site would be?
In short, people do what they want to do when they want to do it anyway. So just let them do it and get on with their lives.
This thread could prove to be a lot of fun to read some interesting replies, John, --- many thanks for bringing up this topic (and I agree w/ you 100%)!!!
Most of the time, I can tell the difference between when someone considering cutting their long hair off has already basically made up their mind, or is seriously in need of support from us, --- although it can be a fine line sometimes... In the first instance, if they've really already solidly made up their mind, then I usually feel no need for me to have to reply. They've made up their mind already about it. They often write practically a whole book about their reasons why nobody should even dare attempt to talk them out of it, --- so... I don't!
In the 2nd instance (when guys are in serious need of support from us), usually there's some indication that they are feeling a lot of outside pressure from family, unsupportive friends, their job and/or boss, etc.... And in THAT case, it's good that we are here to help them think it through before just impulsively just cutting what took years to grow!!!
And then, every once in awhile, MLHH gets a 3rd type of person that posts an, "Oh I'm going to cut my hair" thread: I call these type of guys, "The WISHEE-WASHEES!" In severe cases, they probably have constant debates w/ themselves and/or w/ their spouse or S/O that result in looooooooong unsolved discussions of their indecisions on probably EVERYthing in life... "Should I blow my nose today, --- or just leave it to dry crusty?" "Should we go see a movie tonight, or boycott Hollywood like we said we'd do?" "How about let's visit that new church? No, you're right: I hate organized religion!" Let's go have Sushi tonight, --- on 2nd thought, I forgot I don't like seafood!" "What about that movie again?... Oh, I forgot again: yes, we have to support that boycott!" "I think my boogers are showing, --- should I blow my nose NOW??"
Oh, for Heaven's sake, just shut up and decide on SOMEthing, --- and then tell us all about it AFTERWARDS (lol)!!!!

What I want to know is why the guys in that camp feel compelled to even announce they are cutting it.
Publicity perhaps!
Cheers,
John.B
Attention probably.
LOL It's always nice to come home in the morning after a
tough night at work and read one of your hilarious posts.
I agree with your 3 categories and often don't reply but occasionally will. I'm sure everyone or almost everyone here
has seen the odd post where they write War and Peace about their
situation and why they want to cut it. Do you sometimes want to
say "JUST CUT IT THEN!!!" of course then we'd be frowned apon
as beeing insensitive or whatever and we don't want to be that
do we?
Then there's the rare post where they threaten to cut it and
we all beg them not too and they do it anyway post about it
with pics and then come back later crying in their soup and start regrowing it. My only advice as many have read is two week
rule and or trim one or two inches at a time and often they
will stop after a few trims.
But we carry on and save as many as we can but can't save them
all can we? Yeesh

Aaah, yes, John B., my beautiful antagonist. There HAVE been an inordinate number of, "Waaaaaah, mommy! I'm gonna sheer my locks! Stop me!" type threads here of late. Bro, I've been every hair style, including NO hair whatsoever, including dreadlocks, and every colour known to man, except for black. I have to give it to these people for at LEAST trying. Long hair, more than anything else, is a lifestyle, not just a hair style. People try things out, then either stick WITH 'em, or abandon 'em and move on. Let's encourage the people who'll do well as longhairs, shall we? Yeesh.
Yours for continued hair farming in aught eight and beyond,
Quenyan (RicK)
Hair farming! I like that!!
I haven't posted in a long time, but I need to say I have kept mine and will keep it as long as it lasts. Natural born long hair.
