I have been applying Aloe to my scalp 10 to 15 minutes before I shampoo. I live the aloe on for 15 minutes then shampoo and condition as usual. Supposedly this works, and I am not itching as much. Also the gel you get from the store is not as potent as the ones you can pick in your yard. Sadly I don't have any Aloe Vera growing in my back yard so I bought some from the dollar store.
Also I heard coconut oil works as well. As someone who has suffered dandruff for all my life, I would give anything to see it gone.
Hi Kenneth,
Try Lush. It work VERY well for me.

Might I suggest to you, Kenneth, tea tree oil! BUT, not full strength. There's an excellent liquid castille all natural soap, Dr. Bronner's. Be sure ya grab the bottle o/t tea tree oil version, as there are many kinds in the stable of this Dr. Bronner's, rose, lemongrass, eucalyptus, peppermint, lavendar, and almond.
Like you, as someone who has had sensitive skin problems, seborrhea among 'em, all of my life, heck, from the time I was a neonate and brought home from maternity as a new family addition fifty years ago, I can personally attest to the healing power provided by tea tree oil.
This Dr. Bronner's really rocks. And, mixed w/t castille soap in jus' the right ratio, you won't find his tea tree oil version as overbearing as full strength tea tree oil would be, which has an outright turpentine-y smell. Yeesh.
To the healing arts WITH long hair,
Quenyan (Rick)
Aloe vera plants will grow indoors and do very well as houseplants. They are easy to care for and grow quickly in a sunny window. You could probably purchase a rather large plant from a nursury or plant store for a small price. I doubt they would survive outside anyway in your climate (NYC, right?) They are tropical.
Can climate have an effect on this?
I've had dandruff for a long time too and my problem is that most of these dandruff shampoos tend to dry out the hair.
