I have just found out i have nits and I am very annoyed about it. My mother keeps on telling me I should shave my head in order to get rid of them, but tbh I'd rather have nits than get my hair cut short lol. So I was wondering does anyone know a good way of getting rid of them without doing too much damage to my hair.
Depending on how long you've had them, you can try dipping your scalp into the hottest water you can bear. Don't hurt yourself though....
My sisters had problems with this growing up.
1. Clean your sheets.
2. Use a really good louse-killing shampoo.
3. Someone will have to go through your hair strand by strand to remove the nits. Obviously this won't work in one sitting.
4. When you sleep, saturate your hair with olive oil and sleep with a plastic cap. This will keep new nits from being attached to your hair.
5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 the following days till you're clear.
Go to the chemist's, Tom H., acquire thyself a nits-ridding kit that goes by the name A-200 Pyrinate. That'll kill 'em off. Done. However, there's the question of all of the things that you've worn, the linens that you've slept in, and the upholstery that you've chill'd on. These can all be harboring eggs or displaced nit adults. They live up to and over a month without a host. Better wash everything in scolding hot temperatures. Good luck. They're a real bastard. Jus' get that A-200 Pyrinate.
Best nit-free wishes for aught eight,

Unfortunately I know this well. My ex had long hair, middle of back length. Our live in 3 granddaughters got lice from school. We fought it for two years with reoccurring infestations. She butchered her hair after about a year hoping to end the problem and it didn't work. Rid, mayonnaise, lindane. washing everything in the house several times a month.Spraying furniture with lice poison. Nit combs. The little buggers always came back. Nit combs never seemed to get them all even after hours of working on all the heads in the house which were 6. The solution came when we contacted the health dept. and got a nurse to come out to the house to see how we were taking care of the problem. She said we were doing everything right except BLOW DRYING. The key was finally this. use rid or nix on all in the house. Clean the beddind and any clothes that could be infected. Spray everything down. Wet and blow dry everyones hair twice a day for two weeks and comb out with nit comb. Repeat nix treatment in 10 to 14 days. Fixed the problem and have no re infestation. The heat kills the nits that the comb wont get. Wash hair with conditioner if it's not dirty to help minimize the damage of the blow dryer. This is the only thing that worked.
I eat several cloves of raw garlic per day. Lice and ticks
stay away from me. I have been repeatedly exposed to head
lice and have not gotten infested by them. My best friend
and his daughter had head lice, and I visited often, sitting
on the same couch. They never got on me at all. This same
friend would go on hikes with me in tick infested areas. He
would come back with several ticks on him and I would have
none. Raw garlic may work for you too. Be sure to eat it with
bites of food. Eating it on an empty stomach can be very
painful to your stomach lining.

Yeah, and so do your friends. Too bad the patchouli didn't work to hide the garlic. Hey, it was a groovy idea, anyway. [wink]

Buy the shampoo and a comb, it should come with one, and brush the shampoo through your hair. It makes it very dry, but that can be fixed. Hope this helps!

Permethrin. Brand name: Nix
ask your pharmacist.
get a non-toxic shampoo (from your local shop/store/pharmacy) with a nit comb and follow the instructions
best thing to do is check your head every single day from now on (with the comb) as eggs dont get killed and they will hatch (trust me, its true) and if whoever infected you isnt checking their head it'll be passed around and back to you, keep checking its boring but you'll get used to it and once there's zilch in your head (after a week or so) recheck it every few days just incase
