I have had no problems with the quality of my hair ever really, but in the last month or so, i have quite a problem.
I wash my hair every 2 days usually, with Johnsons baby shampoo twice and head and shoulders conditioner. I comb it normally then leave it to dry naturally.
The first thing i notice after washing is that streaks of light brown dirty blondish colour appear that look weird.
then, the next morning, my hair is stuck up everywhere as usual. When i comb it, it is tangled, dry and snagged and looks whicpy in places, i cant get it to stay down, and usually it looks really bad all day.
The day after, it is a lot better, it doesnt feel really dry anymore and is easier to comb.
Sometimes i leave it another day, because it looks and feels best 3 days after washing, easy to comb and soft.
What am i doing wrong?
I don't know what's going on with the color, but you may be having an issue with the alkalinity (high Ph) of the baby shampoo causing your tangles and dryness. Baby shampoo has a high Ph in order to match the Ph of the eye, thus the "no more tears." Hair, though, likes it a little more acid than that.
One suggestion I have seen is to use a vinegar rinse. This is NOT straight vinegar, though! Dilute it at least 10:1 with water. That is supposed to restore the right Ph balance to your head.
I have to say that I've tried it and not noticed much of a difference, but then I didn't have the dry/tangle problem in the first place. In any case, diluted properly it can't hurt and might help. (Also, if you don't like the smell don't worry, it goes away as soon as the hair dries.)
Hope that helps,
Chris
What Chris A said below is correct: Johnson's Baby Shampoo has a very high alkalinity, --- whereas more acidity in the PH balance is better for your hair & scalp. I used to use Johnson's Baby Shampoo many years ago, as well as Head & Shoulder's; but both of them leaved my hair feeling stripped bare, as if scrubbed too harshly.
I haven't used it in a long time, but once I tried RedKen shampoos & conditioners, I remember dropping those othes like hotcakes! Other brands I like are Nexxus's "Therapy" Shampoo, The Body Shop's Olive Oil line, and what I currently shampoo with, which is Avalon Organics.
Hope this helps!
