Hey everybody,
First of all Happy New Year 2008!
Second of all, I'm new on to this website. My name is Shawn, I'm 17 and live in a Mediterranean country called Malta. There's a funny pic of me from last week in this post... I know, I don't look 17 :P.
I've been wanting to grow my hair originally right before I was 15, seeing as throughout my life my hair was always kept shaved or shaved left-over for 3 months lol... So at first I wanted to grow it about 4 inches to look different, but since then I've been wanting to grow it longer and longer. Society here is somewhat harsh and old-fashioned, when my hair grew about 5 inches everyone kept telling me to cut it because my natural hair is curly and bushy, and used to tell me all sorts of good reasons to keep my hair short. I did as they said, but was never happy with my hair. Now I decided in the end it's my life so I'm going to grow out my hair how I want.
In the beginning of Summer 2007 I was happy because my hair reached until my mouth and I couldn't wait for it to grow, but I badly needed a job so I got one at McDonalds and sure enough was forced to shave it. I've been growing it out since then, but for some reason have read around that to grow hair one has to trim it every 3-4 months. When I came across this site (2 days ago), I realised hair doesn't need a trim for a much longer time! No wonder my hair barely grew in 6 1/2 months!
Now I'm actively growing it... At this point it reaches the bottom of my glasses when pulled (my hair length all over is the same, so if 1 hair is 3.5 inches, they all are). My primary goal is mid-back, then waist, but ultimately I want it butt-length. :)
I'm glad I came across this site because everyones so friendly and supportive of each other, keep it up! :)... Also I hope to make some long-haired friends seeing as in my country someone with long hair is badly thought of :-/.
Take care people! And let that hair grow! :)
Shawn
Hi Shawn,
Welcome to the community and glad that you found us and as you have said the best way to longhair is to stop having trims. You've got hear hair texture there and your started down the to having longhair. I'm sure it will look great as it gets longer.
Keep it growing.
Cheers,
John.B
Welcome. And happy new year to you also. As you found out. Others around you may not be so open minded. The way t get long hair is just not to trim it until it reaches your goal length. You will go through an "awkward" stage that will be very annoying and will give you second thoughts. If you really want great length just tuff it out. It gets better, really. Well maybe peoples opinion wont but the hair will.
Hi,
It's not everyday someone from Malta pops in here. Cool! You live in a beatiful country. There are lots and lots of historic things all around and on your islands, as you probably already know. Really early structures.
Good luck with the hair re-growing. I can't beleive that McDonald's is even in your country. I guess they're out for the world! Shheeesh!
Lol they've been here since about 1995/6... there are nearly 10 branches throughout the islands. Yeah it's a nice country but only for touristic purposes; it's not at all practical to live in all year round. I'd rather be in a country that has real seasons! :)
Thanks for the welcome :)
Hey Shawn, Welcome to the board. Cool curls!
peace, jonalbear
welcome to the mlhh Shypii90, I am very suprised that mc donalds told you to cut your hair. I know some long haired guys that work at the one in my town. Anyway they are usually desperate for staff because no one particularly wants to work there lol. Anyway I spent a week in Malta last summer and I loved it, I could not see a chav anywhere which is a bonus because in England they are a big problem to society.
BTW continue to grow your hair, and to hell with what anyone else thinks
