I think I can safely say that my hair (scalp) is a bit more oily than average. I've come across a lot of info online about shampooing only every so often, even sometimes applying oils to leave in. With my hair, though, I'm shampooing at MOST once a day, but I can let it go maybe two or three days (over a weekend, maybe... The downside being it just won't look presentable, haha.)
After my hair is shampooed, I apply conditioner to the length that is about 4-5 inches away from my scalp, and rinse in cool water. This renders my hair in the ideal condition for the day, after which, I loose it after a night of sleep. Like I said, if I have to go out, I must wash my hair, or else it looks horrible and gross.
Anyone else with more-than-average oil levels care to share any maintenance tips?
im the same way dude , i just put baby powder in my hair every now and then it absorbs alot of the grease out, and i wash/condition my hair together every 2-3 days hope this helps :)
I have similar oilyness.
I shampoo every morning with very warm water, but only the scalp area, with very little shampoo (I use Lush "New" solid...very little amount) I use a very light conditioner over the length of my hair and rinse with cool water.

Same problem. If I am going out anywhere I have to shampoo daily. I wash & condition my hair almost every day.
Yea, my hairs oil level is much like yours, I have to wash my hair every day or else it will look disgusting. What I do is I use nothing but cold water on my hair (not cool, COLD) and when I shampoo I only apply about a pea size bit of shampoo on my hand and then spread it over my scalp area but only for a few seconds, then I rinse it off. After that I apply conditioner to the ends of my hair first then work my way up and I apply a tiny bit on my scalp because I have fine hair and it looks evident at the very top, so I condition it to thicken it up more. The conditioner stays in my hair for no more than 30-40 seconds before I rinse it out, again with cold water.
Thats my own personal routine, it can differ for you depending on your hair type. I use Alterna 10 Shampoo and Pantene Pro-V Thickening Conditioner.
I share your pain, I have oily hair and like you I can do maybe
two days but after that forget it. What your doing is pretty
much what I would suuggest. Sometimes when I'm greasy and need to
run to the store or something I'll put it in a pony tail and that's tolerable. In other words I look less scummy.
I wash everyday condition right after although I condition it all
for easier comb through. Less near the scalp more towards
the ends. Then let it air dry and tie it up if I'm going to work.
good luck

I have the same problem. Sometimes I can fake it if I don't get my hair wet in the shower, but if I go out in the rain, even a mist, my hair will look scuzzy, especially the roots that are darker than the rest of the hair.
I have yet to figure out something fool proof, short of washing every day, so I'm reading the replies for ideas. I have heard of using talcum powder or that spray PSSSSSST, but haven't tried them. Hmmm...
