I heard on the radio and read in the paper grim sounding reports out of L.A. and S.F. -- mud slide risk; lots of rain and high winds; 100 mph winds in the mountains and 8 feet of snow; hundreds of thousands without electricity; 101 and other highways closed because of blowing debris; and this is the first of 3 storms this weekend?
It was messy but not badbadhorrible in SF. We get these things from time to time. The wind was definitely howling though this morning (30-40mph, gusts higher).
Okay thanks T; that's a relief to know; I certainly hope the other two storms in the green room are not too bad.
They appear to be milder. I'm fine with that.
Yeah, we had sort of a west coast winter hurricane here. Up
to 1 million people without electric power and winds exceeding
100 miles per hour in some places. The next storms will be
much less severe. This was the worst storm in 5 years.

Here is an image of an overturned Safeway truck. It takes hurricane speed winds to do this.

...no doubt walking out there would be a mistake...
Thanks for the reports and photo--yes being out there would be unpleasant, especially with long hair.
Hey Rob, yeah, I live in the redwood country about 70 miles north of SFO and 60mph winds and redwoods do not do well together, lots of tree and electrical line problems and thousands still without power. I'm one of the lucky ones. The worst is over now happily.
Hope you are doing well.
Cheers,
Max
I'd hate that--I hate the wind when it gets to really blowing. We have the "gales of Novembe" here (Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald) where these inland low pressure systems move over the Great Lakes and as one move in and out of here we get 24 to 36 hours of wind, sometimes gusting up to over 60 mph but usually in the 30 - 40 range with gusts up to 50. That's okay for a while, but a day of being battered can fatigue structures so that you have some tree, power line and antenna failures.
Lately we have just had cold weather and snow. That's not too bad.
In San Rafael, 16 miles north of SF, it took me a full hour to go 2 miles to get on the freeway. about a third of the traffic lights were out and there was standing water on a lot of streets.
Once I circled around the roadblocks and got on the highway, though, there was nearly nobody on it, so we could rip along at 50 mph (that was pushing it, what with the rain, pools, and wind).

Oh well we're quite used ot those conditions here. I remember once being over in the bay area and high winds and rain and listen to the radio your would think the world was going to end. I'm quited to those condition and so many people were so afraid and turned into "granny drivers"!
Cheers,

Stayed up half the night watching the weather action...
High wind (up to 90 mph), rain (unusual for us)
and snow (extraordinary).
Nice day to sit next to the fireplace with a book. The Cats sure hate it though ! (Yes, I gave them warm milk and eggs...HA!)

Thanx for the reports--
keep in mind the heat trapping capability of hair W.T. I wouldn't worry about your kitties because they seem to have nice fur coats.
Dear Walter,
You got snow? Lucky! Even your ladies don't seem to mind. Thanks for sharing that shot. Those green eyes are stunning.
I was weather watching too, I love rain and wind so was perched at the window watching all the leaves blow about yeaterday. There was even a brief hailstorm that didn't seem to bother the great horned owl on a neighbor's rooftop.
