I figured this might be a fun post, and everyone is encouraged to contribute. I've recently thought of a funny analogy to the "Long Hair Milestones". For anyone who has played a role playing game, the milestones are a bit like leveling up. The early levels go by quickly, but later levels get spaced out and require more "XP".
Anyway, here's what I've come up with, starting with a snappy short haircut.
1. Your hair reaches your eyes, and you are nearly blinded when you drive in the car with the window down.
2. You get the 'wings'. You might try hairgel or other styling products, but by now it might be too long for styling and look a bit rediculous. And you can't go around wearing a hat all the time. This is the beginning of the 'awkward' stage.
3. You are introduced to the wonderful world of knots. All of my most warmest wishes to you.
4. You can put your bangs in your mouth. It sounds gross, but no longhair can deny ever doing this.
5. The hair in front reaches your jawline, and you might even be able to tuck it behind your ears. But, you're still a little while from a full ponytail, so for now you try out the half-pony, and endure some comments from your friends.
6. At this point, the time between milestones start spacing out, but you can finally get most of your hair in a ponytail, though instead of at the nape of your neck, it's more near the back of your head.
7. Once you can lower your tail's fastener to the back of your neck, you feel a sense of accomplishment. Even if your tail is a nub, at this point. Your hair is about shoulder-length here.
8. You can bring your tail around front, and hold (at least some of) it in your mouth.
9. The hair beyond your tail reaches the same length as your head, and you look 'balanced' when you tie your hair back.
10. As silly as it sounds, you take note when you see that your hair can cover your nipples.
11. You can reach behind you and, without tilting your head back, you can touch your hair.
12. The 'Mid-Back' Milestone. Since the middle of your back is a large area, you must hang out at this milestone for a while.
13. Your hair reaches your belly-button, this can also count as waist-length.
14. You can grab your belt and grab your hair at the same time.
15. In the shower, unless you bring it around front, your hair gets caught in 'certain places'.
16. At this point, depending on your genes and the condition of your hair, the last milestone would be terminal length. Your hair is as long as it will get, and all you can do now is take the very best care of it, and enjoy the fruits of your time and effort as you ride into the sunset on your noble stallion, as your hair blows in the breeze.
Those were all great, I would say I'm at number five right now.
What a great post! I'm at 11 1/2.
We ought to put this in thw FAQ and great idea of length measurment, how about it crew?
Cheers,

number 9 does not make any sense to me.
Haha, I guess that's probably just something in my mind then, I guess. When I was finally able to tie my hair back, I still wasn't satisfied because my ponytail seemed so short, so it might be some sort of zen-thing when the ponytail appeared the same length as the hair before the ponytail. In other words, the hair at both ends of the band were at equal length. IDK, it seemed like a milestone in my mind lol.
<<<9. The hair beyond your tail reaches the same length as your head, and you look 'balanced' when you tie your hair back.>>>
You mean it's supposed to say, "The hair beyond your tie...?"
I do believe you've hit a Bullseye with these milestones. Guess I have passed on all milestones myself and have been at #16 for quite a long time.
Im only at 5.
Hi TheRedComa,
These are interesting milestones indeed! I suspect that there is some variation between milestones 10 and 11, and they may actually reverse order in some cases. Because my neck is longer than average, my hair does not yet reach my nipples in front, unless wet(milestone 10). However, I can reach my hair in back, and my hair is not too far from mid back. (milestone 11)

One of the best milestones is when the front reaches the collar bone.
It is the FRONT of the hair that gives guys that 'longhair' look.
To prove my point, just look at a guy with a mullet. Even if his hair reaches
his belt his hair will not look as long as a man who has shoulder-length hair
all the way around.
Not sure where to number it but there's the milestone when
the hair gets caught in the car door on a windy day.
Otherwise I would say I'm at 12 with some strands at 13.

Oren, Hello! I'm at 12 myself but not with the beard.(lol)

I'd've added a few more milestones, but that is just me...
I completely agree - the original post missed all the milestones along the lower half of the body. I would refer to the more comprehensive list at http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=52899

Of course, how many of us are there here who are at or beyond classic? Not very many. So the numbers of people here who are at these lengths or desire to reach these lengths are relatively insignificant compared to the much larger numbers with shorter hair. I think all of us are also pretty set/comfortable with our lengths and goals as well.
15b - Classic (crease between butt and thigh)
15c - Thigh
15d - Knee
15e - Calf
15f - Ankle
15g - Floor
15h - Past Floor
