I finally got my first real job (only part time though) at SecondCup haha. Its far from special but it beats out your generic Tim Horton's. I've been looking for the past year and I was really starting to think it was my hair that was inhibiting me from finding a job and my parents thought the same. In all honesty this is a dream come true, and I can't wait to start tonight. I'm glad I never cut my hair just for a job because I know now that its not a problem.

Way to go. The next time I pass through Brampton (saw that in the members list) I'll have to look for a Second Cup to get my caffine fix.
So happy for you that you landed that job and prooved everyone wrong about your long hair preventing you from finding employment. Great news!
Congratulations !
The Second Cup Website is interesting. Looks like they only use Free Trade Coffee and high quality beans. I am a bit of a coffee snob, roasting my own beans at home. Great fun.
Good Luck and Don't work too hard !!

I'll admit that having longhair may cause some to loose out on a
few opportunities but it is possible to land a job with long hair
and have a reasonable career as well it just takes time and
patients to find that job. I''m glad you found your job and hope
it works out for you. A little money coming in is always a good
thing.

Glad to hear you found a decent place to work, Animosity. Sooner or later a lot of stereotypes with long hair will be broken, IMO, and we'll see much less disdain for such a trait overall in the workplace. Best of luck on your first day! =)

Congrats on the job! Hopefully there will be more businesses in the future that can be as open minded about long hair.

Congrats on your new job. It's great to hear that there's no problem concerning your hair. Many moons ago I had a job that really didn't have a written dress code, but the owner did not like long hair on guys. On one occassion I had to travel to Virginia with the owner to another site. Before we left he told me we weren't going to leave until I got a haircut...and it wasn't even that long...just over the ears a bit. Wish I had the guts to sue him back then. Oh well...I'm fortunate that where I'm at now there are no restrictions on hair length. I'm one of two longhairs with shoulder length or longer.
There were a couple of people they wouldn't let me hire because of their hair. I had to ask them if they'd cut it to work there, but they both said no...I really admired that.
Take care and best of luck!
Brett
