hello everyone. I have been growing for almost a year now, and have got past alot of annoying points that come with growing your hair out. But lately I have been really worried about alot of breakage occurring. I have noticed it all in my bangs area, there are alot of strands of hair that are only 1 inch long and the rest goes to my chin. not just single hairs but groups of many hairs. just recently i swiched my shampoo\conditioner from infusium-23 to garnier fructis long and strong so i can strengthen my hair alittle (hopefully). Does anyone think this is out of the ordinary from regular split ends and so on?
I was thinking it might be time for a trim but im not sure how much of a difference that will make. I may be one of those people who needs constant trims from time to time, who knows. Anyways sorry for the long message i just had to ask somebody about all this. And the best of luck to all of you with your growing as well.

Hello Jann,
I have some hair in my bang that are small and more fragile even if i have super strong nails.
For you nails i would look at your diet, and if you tired of breaking your nails you should put some olive oil on it each night it will make them stronger !

Thx, I'll give it a try.
I had the same problem which freaked me out a lot a few weeks ago. My hair i apparently very fragile and it breaks easily. Since then I´ve never used neither a brush nor a comb. I just fingercomb every morning and sometime during the day.
I get almost zero breakage now and I think my hair is recovering. It looks better now at least.
i was actually thinking about doing the same. Since it seems to be helping for you I think i might try the same thing, just finger combing every morning. Thanks for the tip.
Yeah, it´s definately worth a try. Though it´ll take some time for the hairs to grow out again.
The only time I have to use a comb is after I´ve showered, to comb it all back. But when I do that, I´m very very careful and start at the ends. :)
I would be curious to know if when you are brushing or combing your hair that you actually are breaking hairs or what. If you snag a hair and yank it enough to break it, you should be feeling it snatch, thus an indication of breakage.
Alternately, if hairs are breaking of from splits or otherwise, they will have a frayed look at the end of the follicle. If your hair has undergone some sort of damage, or is just prone to breakage, then this could be the case. Brushing wet hair is a no-no; combing wet, thoroughly conditioned hair carefully is acceptable. This is my m.o. I only comb it when it's been washed and conditioned, then carefully. If I have a tangle, I stop the comb, get the tangle in my fingers where I can see it, and pick it out -- no hairs sacrificed.
I myself have very fine hair which would break easily if I did not take measures to prevent against it.
Also, some folks' hair in certain areas really never gets as long as the rest. I have found that my hair right in front of the ears has never gotten more than about 7 inches long, though my hair has not been cut at all in over 18 months. As for bang hairs, it could be that this group of hairs had shed for some reason and is just now growing back. I would monitor this area to see what happens in the coming months.
Further, if you have excessive tangles at the ends, a trim might definitely help. I doubt a trim would have any benefit for hairs that are just short right now and will be long. My best guess is that they are replacement hairs for some that have shed.
Good luck, Matt B.
Thank you for all the useful information. This has actually made me think, and come to think of it maybe I havent been as careful as i should of. I have heard that brushing and combing wet hair is not good, but i have been doing it since it allows the brush/ comb to go through easier. Every time i brush or comb my hair after it was dried, it snags alot more often, so thats why I always brushed it when it was wet. I guess i figured it was better since there were alot less snags etc. Do you think i would still be better off waiting for it to dry before i brush it although it catches snags alot more when its dry?

My opinion -- if you have straight hair, let it dry then brush it. If it's curly, comb it wet and let that be it. Combing/brushing curly hair is good if you want to have an afro. Somewhere in the middle, make a judgement. Lots of guys do comb wet, straight hair, but it's a judgment call.
I dislike length and strength because it puts you under the impression that your hair is getting 'stronger', when really all it does is cover up present damage and protest from it in the future. It's chock full o'silocones, and helpful if you have undamaged hair to start with, but go off it later with damaged hair and you're doomed.
But, in any case, good luck growing.
Thanks for the advice, i guess it all depends what peoples hair type is and how it reacts with different products. I will continue using this for a while longer and see how it goes, and it i do not notice anything different i will switch
