I think I already asked this a while back but never got a response or I completely forgot about it but the topic has come up again. I use conditioner in the shower and let it sit for a good 2 minutes usually then rinse it out and let my hair dry, its usually pretty dry and puffs up every now and then even now that it has decent length. I used to and have started again as of today to not rinse out my conditioner and simply let it and my hair dry. After 10 minutes my hair gets a sort of shell on it from the dried conditioner leaving my hair stiff in a straight position (usually its kinda wavy) but still wet. After 3 hours its usually completely dry but still hardened but after a simple combing it completely disappears and leaves my hair shiny, soft, controlled and straight. Now I don't use actual "Leave-In" conditioner for this and I've heard that it could actually cause harm to your hair, is this possible? As this method works wonders for me and I like it a lot.

I think that it your hair will be fine. There's lots of advice about treating damaged hair by leaving conditioner on for long periods of time, even overnight. If it's working for you, I'd say stick with it.

On the one hand a leave in conditioner is specifically made to
leave in so all the chemicals are mixed to not hurt your hair.
So if your doing that with a regular conditioner I can't say it
won't hurt but I can't believe it will do any damage. One would
guess it's coating your hair and even though you comb it there's
still some of that coating on there. The only risk I can see is
build up and maybe what will look like dandruff flakes. This is an
educated guess of course but I don't see any danger of serious
damage.
Maybe use a clarifying shampoo once in a while wouldn't be a bad idea.

No dandruff problems at all so hopefully its not bad for me, thanks for the suggested effects.
