Hiya, guys,
This is my first proper post although I've been following the board for a while.
I've been growing my hair for about two and a half years now and it reaches the bottom of my shoulder blades. It's blonde and has a slight wave. On the whole I'm pretty happy about it and how it looks, but I find that a lot of hairs are breaking near the ends, usually quarter to half an inch from the end.
I wash and condition it twice a week and often wear it in a braid cos it gets in the way when I play sports and gets tangled on everything in the wind. I quite often wear it in a tail too. I normally finger comb it when wet to get any tangles out and then brush it from the ends with a bristle brush. I've tried a comb in the past and that caused more problems than it solved. The brush very rarely causes any tangles.
I don't have a problem with split ends and I use an elasticated band (not elastic) with no metal bits or rough ends to tie it with and I try to vary the point at which I tie it every day so that I'm not compressing any one stretch of hair regularly.
Anyone got any idea why the hairs are breaking and what I can do to stop this happening?
Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the board Viking!
First I am going to tell you: if you have wavy hair, the best thing to use would definitly be a comb! Of course if can depend and it mayb work diferent for you, but reading your post I kinda relate to where you're coming from. I have wavy hair too and used to detangle it with a brush. I spent a lont time trying to use a comb and I just felt it was bad to my hair. Suddenly I realised most of my problems: frizz, breakage - they came from the brush. So I switched to a wide toothed comb, and now I have much less friz (you can't get totally rid of it if your hair is wavy lol) and the breakage was reduced to a minimum. You can't get rid of breakage totally as well, but you can minimize it.
Using a lot of conditioner would help too. If your hair is dry you should wash it less often as well...
Hope I helped ^^ Good luck!
