Hi everyone,
I wasn't planning an update this month, since my hair does not grow that quickly, but ChrisH in his update a bit farther down was wonderfing when I would post one, and since I had taken a few photos yesterday, I decided to share them with you today.
First of all, I would like to thank everyone for making the hyperboard a community like no other. I have been overwhelmed at the support I have received these past 16 months I have been a member, and I cannot thank everyone enough for their warmth and friendship.
My hair dose not grow that fast, but the growth has improved during the past year, since I learned to care for long hair better. I lost considerable growth between the one year and 2 1/2 year mark due to an addiction to straightening irons, which caused breakage and near nil growth. Once I stopped using them 16 months ago, my hair's condition improved, and it is growing better. If I had not had the setback due to the starightening, my hair would probably be considerably longer than it is now, but hopefully, the damage will be less evident with time, and the hair will continue to grow.
Now, on to the pictures!
Here is one from the front. I did not get the full length in, and I need to stand farther from the camera!
Here is one from the side.
Another one, "looking over the shoulders". The hair is in better condition than a year ago.
Here is one of my ponytail. I pulled it back enough so you can see my gray hairs, which are mostly in the underneath layers. I call these my "natural highlights", lol!
That is all for now, but as always, comments are warmly welcomed, and once again, tahnk you to everyone for your kindness and support. I could not have come this far without you.
This is an awesome update David, your hair looks great. Have you had any trims along the way?
-animosity
Hi Animosity,
Thank you for your kind words about my update! My last cut was in April 2004. My hair would be longer if not for a 1 1/2 year period where I became hooked on straightening irons,a nd experienced a roughly 8 month period of almost nil growth because of the breakage. Thankfully, my hair has been growing better in the last year, about 5 inches, which is just a bit below average.
Thanks again,
David
it looks great david; I don't think you have anything to worry about. I wish I had your thickness on top.
Hi Rob,
Thank you for your kind words about my update, and I consider myself lucky to have the hair I have at 54 1/2 years old. Although my hair is not as thick as it was when I was in my 40's, I still am thankful for what I still have.
Take care,
David
Oh, to have those "natual highlights" instead of my own weird looking natural color hair!! It's looking great, David!!
Hi Randy,
Thank you for all your kind words about my update. Don't worry about your hair colour, it looks fine to me, and it has been growing a lot faster recently as well, as I remember from your last update.
Take care, and keep it growing,
David
Congratulations, David! You're very fortunate genetically.
I must say that you look as happy in your first photo as anyone I've seen on this board. Long hair really does make people happy!
Ed
Hi Ed,
Thank you SO much for your wonderful reply, and I agree that I AM much happier with long hair, and hope to grow it as long as possible. Your hair has always been an inspiration to everyone on the hyperboard! Also, I am delighted to see your wonderful contributions over at the LHC, and thank you for your kind words about my one year anniversary post over there.
Take care,
David
Hi David,
Thank you once again for posting an update and your hair is looking great condition. As you so rightly say we have a very positive and helpful community here and to know there is such a place on the internet is nice to know.
Always a pleasure to see your updates and great to know we have positive people like you aboard.
Cheers,
John.B
Hi John,
Thank you, as always, for your wonderful reply, and for your kind words. You have almost never missed any of my updates, and I really appreciate it.
I hope you are feeling better and better every day, and here's to great health in the future!
Cheers,
David
Hi David
Your hair is looking great and in such good condition compared to the first ones you posted way back when you found the board, the ponytail is really superb.
Best wishes to you, and keep growing!
Regards Dave
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your kind words, as always. You have always been one of the most supportive guys on the hyperboard, and it is also a pleasure to work with you behind the scenes as well. I really could not have come this far without the knowledge and support I have received from the LHC. I am definitely looking forward to your next update as well.
Cheers,
David
Hello David, what a nice update, your hair looks like it is in really good condition and you are making up for that "stalled" growth rate that you mentioned when you straightened. Thanks for your continued motivation. Hope you are doing well.
Cheers,
Max
Hi Max,
It is always great to hear from you, and I hope things are going well out your way. Thank you for your kind words, and I really could not have done it without the support of this fabulous community. I am looking forward to your next update as well.
Cheers,
David
Hey David,
GREAT pics, my friend, --- my two favorites being: the first one (where I already stated my complete agreement w/ Ed G about you being about the happiest-looking longhair ever seen here); and the ponytail pic....
"Lookin' good!" is too mild a compliment. As Tony the Tiger used to say about Kellog's Frosted Flakes, you look, "G-R-R-R-R-REAT!!!!!!"
- Ken
Hi Ken,
It is always a delight to hear from you, and I am SO glad you popped in to comment on my update. I really appreciate your kindness, and admit that I rather enjoy seeing the natural silvers growing in. Also, I must add that I AM happy with long hair, and just like you, the longer, the better!
Of course we miss your fabulous sense of humour and your fabulous contributions behind the scenes in the hyperboard crew. You really made our little gang extra special. I hope everything is going well in your new job and I am sure you are putting your heart and soul into it. Of course, I am looking forward to meeting you next year as well, as part of my road trip!
Take care,
David
I wish I had had the same attitude back in my 20's. When my gray areas made me feel like an homage to Elsa Lanchester as the Bride of Frankenstein whenever I pulled my hair back, I dyed. Once you start, you have to keep it up, or you get the funky roots, or worse. Now, I think the line of demarcation is worse than if I'd just gone with the flow.
Your hair and attitude are great!
Hi Juli414,
Thank you for popping in to offer your kind words about my photos. I am sure your hair will be fine, just give it time. I have always thought that natural is the best way, and rather enjoy my grays as they come in.
Thank you again, and take care,
David
Wow David!
What a great update and your long hair is looking better and better all the time. Superb+++++++++++
And all grown so beautifully without having to monkey around with hair cuts and trims. Inspiration of just what hair CAN DO if left to grow all by itself.
Thank you ever so much with sharing this update.
all the best-
Justin~
Hi Justin,
As always, you always have the most wonderful words to say about my updates, and I really appreciate your friendship and support since I joined the hyperboard. Your hair has always been an inspiration, and hopefully, I will be able to grow mine as long as yours some day.
Take care,
David
Good work David! keep on growing those locks for sure
Hi Tom,
Thank you for your kind words about my update, and I will most definitely keep growing it!
Take care,
David
looking good there!
you have nice hair and your beard is looking good too.
hope you don't minde my saying you do look nice and huggable and pettable
Hi Ron,
Thank you for your kind words about my hair and beard, and hopefully, you are still continuing the growth of your own hair and beard after your recent trim.
Keep it growing,
David
yes my fur is still growing
will post some new pic's soon
David !
That is your best update since you have been on the board.....and the difference in your hair condition is dramatic compared to your first posts. Congratulations !!
I am curious though, you always attribute your strightening methods as causing so much damage; I can see breakage, but why would it inhibit growth??
Is this a secret that only a chemist would know !?? HA!
At any rate, you are looking good (you also seem to be developing that; "I am almost retired" smirk ! HA!)
Thanks for Sharing
Walter
Hi Walter,
Thank you for your kind words about my update! I agree that my hair has been growing better in the last year.
About the slow growth when I was using the straightening irons (daily, and sometimes more than once per day, when I was seriously hooked on them), I am pretty sure that I was stunting my growth. I have photos from December 2005, and some from October, 2006, where there was almost no difference in length (10 months), and some of my earliest posts on the hyperboard were actually those where I feared I had reached terminal length. I stopped using the irons in September, 2006, and there has been an improvement. So I am pretty sure it was the irons, and the fact that the ends were constantly snapping off, that was casuing my hair never to get much past shoulder length.
Take care,
David
So the lack of lengthening is due to breakage at the ends, not actually stopping growth at the roots...That makes sense...Thanks
WWT
Everything looks great David! Natural highlights, lol! Nice. Keep it growing!
Hi Hegg_The_Norsk,
Thank you for your kind words about my update, and I will definitely keep it growing! I have always embraced my grays as they come in, after all, natural is always better!
Take care,
David
Very nice pics. Your hair has a nice texture and looks well cared for.
I like the color variations in the ponytail pic.
Congratulations and Good Luck
Hi Luckskind,
Thank you for your kind words, and I am so happy to have found this site that has taught me so much about how to care for long hair. I have always embraced my grays as they grow in, and believe that natural is always better.
Take care,
David
Hi arnocello,
Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate it!
Take care,
David
David your hair is wonderful condition! I am truly jealous!
And thanks for what you and everyone on the crew do for this community.
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Hi Bruce,
Thank you for all your kind words about my hair and about my contributions! You have always been one of the best contributors to the board as well. Although I don't have the fast growth rate or the awesome red colour you are blessed with, I am reasonably happy for what I have at 54 1/2 years old. I am looking forward to your next update!
Take care,
David
David the hair looks great man! awesome length and looks very healthy!
Hi Mark,
Thank you for all your kind words about my update! Also, I hope you are doing OK, after your recent loss, and that you were able to enjoy Christmas the best way you could.
Take care, and keep it growing,
David
Hi David,
Honestly, your hair does have a lot more shine to it in these shots. Whatever you're doing must be working. I am glad you've gotten hold of a good routine that works.
These are some great pictures. Hope all is well in Nova Scotia.
Matt B.
Hi Matt,
Thank you for all your kind words about my update, and I really credit my hair's improvement in condition to the wonderful support of this community, and the knowledge I have gained in care for long hair from my fellow members.
I hope things are going well for you in Georgia, and my best wishes that you continue to do well in your studies. I am looking forward to your next update!
Take care,
David
Hi David
Well your update was a nice surprise as its always great when members put up the new pics:)Anyway your hair looks awesome in spite of the damage done by your old ways of torturing your hair! Just joking.LOL.Right now it looks very healthy and isn't it nice to have to stand back from the camera to get the full length in:))Now thats progress!!As usual I'll select my favorite which is included in my response. The gray hairs are cool natural highlights as I'm kind of finding them as well on myself.Yikes!LOL.Thanks again for the pics and can't wait for the major update.Mark
Hi Mark,
As always, it is a delight to hear from you, and you really are a cool guy, and one of the most supportive people on the hyperboard. Thank you, as always, for your kind words, and it has always been my belief that my natural silvers are something to embrace as they grow in.
Take care,
David
Hi David,
I count it a privilege to consider you a friend. It's been so enjoyable to watch your progress and to see your hair both lengthen and thicken in the time I've known you. I'm looking forward to meeting you next year.
Jason
Hi Jason,
I return the compliment to you, and feel honoured to have your friendship, and cherish it. I genuinely appreciate your support ever since I joined the hyperboard, and really look forward to meeting you next year.
Also, my heartfelt thanks for telling me about the LHC a year ago! You were 100% correct in what you told me at that time, it is an awesome community, and I have met some FABULOUS people there!
Take care,
David
Hey David,
Excellent update! Your hair does have a great natural color, and the beard is still looking top notch. I wish you the best in 2008!
Peace,
Ryan
Hi Ryan,
Thank you for your kind words about my hair and beard, and I wish you a very happy new year as well, and hope that everything is going well with you.
Take care,
David
Dear Doctor North, yours is a presence on the board here that has kept me coming back time and again, intelligenstia of longhairedness that we are. Your hair's like mine; strong, straight, lustrous, slightly colour'd w/ natural gray, and HEALTHY! However, the beard of yours has ALSO served as an inspiration as well, as you well know. Now I'm re-growing mine again, seeing that you have been an inspiration t'me B4 and it looks GRRR8 on you, too. Thank you for posting these wonderful new update pics of yours, David N! You're a font of inspiration for us all.
Hi Quenyan,
I am delighted that you replied to my update, and very pleased to be able to serve as an inspiration for you to regrow your beard.
My hair is not really straight all the time. It is straightest right after washing, air drying, and gently combing, and when the weather is dry. This is usually when I take photos for my updates. In humid conditions, and after waking in the morning, my hair is curlier and prone to tangling.
Thank you again, and take care,
David
Hey Dave!
Thanks for providing this magnificent update for all of us, I was really looking forward to it! Your hair looks amazing, Dave. It looks healthy and shiny and appears a bit thicker in this update than it did in your previous ones. Whatever you're doing to increase the thickness is definitely working! Lengthwise, it definitely looks longer. I hope it continues to grow even LONGER so that you can reach your desired goal length, waist-length.
The hyperboard has been so great since you arrived, Dave. I'd like to thank you for all that you have done for this wonderful community. It's been a pleasure working with you "behind-the-scenes", lots of fun! Take care Dave and I hope all is well over your way in Canada.
All the best,
Chris H
Hi Chris,
Thank you for stopping in, and for keeping up your perfect record of never missing any of my updates, you are a genuine friend. Ironically, I was not planning an update at all, until I read your reply to my reply to your update encouraging me to post one. (Yours was awesome, by the way!)
I could never have come this far without the support of this fabulous community, where I have made so many friends. Thank you for everything you have done as well, you are one of the best contributors on the entire LHC, both on the main board, and behind the scenes in our little gang.
Thank you again, and take care,
Dave
Your mane is looking better and better the longer and longer it gets. Great photos too!
Karsten
Hi Karsten,
I am delighted to see you reply to my update, and thank you for your kind words. Your hair has ALWAYS been an inspiration, and it is a dream of mine that my hair looks like yours some day.
Take care, and keep it growing,
David
You DO need to step back from the camera a bit more. Your hair is getting too long to fit into a close-up shot! :-) It's looking great, David, and I really like the way the tail accents the grey in your mane.
Keep it growing!
Mouse
Hi Mouse,
As always, it is such a pleasure whenever you stop in, and thank you for your kind words. I admit that I rather like the natural highlights provided by my silvers as they grow in.
I am looking forward to your next update of your lovely thick wavy red hair.
Take care,
David
Everything's looking great, David! Overall, your hair is quite healthy, I'd say. Hope you're doing well! =)
-James
Hi James,
Thank you for your kind words about my latest photos, and I am pleased with the improvement in my hair's condition these days. I am doing quite well, thank you for asking, and I hope things are going well for you in your studies. Those were wonderful photos of your Washington trip, and that was a VERY impressive braid!
Take care,
David
David, Stunning silver streaks. Looks like your hair has healed nicely and you are taking superb care of it.
Keep it growing and flowing
peace, jonalbear
Hi Jonalbear,
Thank you for your kind words about my update, and I admit to rather enjoying the natural silvers as they grow in!
Take care, and keep it growing,
David
Hey, is that Bob Seger! haha!
You have made some incredible progress and it certainly looks like you will reach your "belt-length" goal.
Congrats!
jeffrey.
Hi Jeffrey,
Thank you for your kind words, and I am rather pleased with the last year, thanks to the knowledge gained from this community. I hope everything is going OK with you, and looking forward to an update from you.
Take care,
David
Wow awesome hair and you've got great length that I myself would want to have! Your beard looks pretty cool too
Hi Dio,
Thank you for your kind words about my hair and beard, and I am sure you will get to my kength in no time!
Take care, and keep it growing,
David
Wow, David! Your hair continues to amaze me with each update! It clearly shows that you've been really taking care of your hair. Keep up the excellent work! :)
Hi Brandon,
Thank you for your kind words, and I really have this community to thank for the improvement in my hair's condition. Your hair is coming along very well indeed, and you have come a long ways in a relatively short period of time.
Take care, and keep it growing,
David
Dave the hair is getting so long that you'll need to get your photographer to take a couple steps back to get it all in! (And you thought you were terminal, HA!)
I'm not around much, but I do take time to pop in and read what is going on.
I am still growing. Holly is doing well in her French school and I am still a long-haired kindergarten (and K-8 music) teacher and, truth be told, I think my students would freak if I walked in shorn. This is a great journey and I wouldn't have made it without the support from people like you.
You are looking good, Sir!
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
Hi Shawn,
I am delighted to see you pop in to offer all your kind words about my update, and I really appreciate it! In fact, it is thanks to the support of this community (and another one I am a member of), that I am where I am today.
As to my photographer, that is simply myself, my trusty old tripod, and the self timer of my camera. I just need to stand farther away next time!
I am so glad that Holly is doing well, I know how proud you are of your little girl. I am also pleased to hear that you are still growing your awesome Manlocks, and that your students are enjoying your journey to long hair.
Take care, and thank you again,
David
Hi David
I'm coming along a bit late and hope your still checking your thread. This is a fantastic update your hair is in great health and
good texture. I imagine you must be thrilled with it as i would be
myself. I hope all is well with you and the weather not to
horrible in Nova Scotia as it's the ususal cold and snowy here.
Where global warming went I don't know, must be on vacation.
Take care
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
Thank you SO much for your kind words, and yes, I am still checking my thread! I really appreciate you stopping in, and I attribute the improvement of my hair's condition to the support of this fantastic community.
Our weather was quite cold and snowy in Nova Scotia for most of December and early January, although we got a nice long respite from winter last week, which lasted for more than a week. For a couple of days, the temperature reached 50, and most of the snow melted. We got one small storm the night before last (3 inches or so), which was much worse in the northern parts of the province.
I hope everything is going well with you, and I am eagerly awaiting an update from you as well.
Take care,
David
Excellent job so far, keep up the good work!
Miller
Hi Miller,
I am SO glad that I scrolled down to find your reply to my update, and thank you for your kind words.
Take care,
David
