I have a question regarding the even-length cut. So far, I've been growing my hair out for 17 months, and when I first started on my longhair journey, I told myself I would my hair cut to an even length once it all reached shoulder length. Well, today I looked into the mirror and discovered that I have now reached that length-everything now is shoulder length or longer.
Since my goal isn't as long as possible, and I'm only aiming for mid-lower back length, would this be a smart move? I want my hair to look the best it can be, and right now, with many varying lengths, I don't think it is. I've recently been combing the odd lengths to the back to see what it would look like, and I like what I see.
I know there will be a lot of bias against this, but I really like the one-length look. I know several members have done this, but what do you think about me getting my hair un-layered?
(Combed all the hairs that are longer back)
Hi Brandon,
As always, your hair looks awesome, and it is growing quickly, and is thick and healthy. Some people prefer to have slight trims along the way to achieve the all one length look, others prefer to let the hair achieve this on its own. In my latest update that I posted yesterday, I have not had any trims in 45 months, and am letting the earlier damage caused by straightening irons grow out on its own. I might consider a slight trim in the future if I feel I need it, but for now will just keep it growing!
Take care, and keep it growing,
David
Thanks David! I don't know why, but it just bugs me when my bangs are shoulder length, and the back of my hair is almost to my shoulder blades. Hopefully, if I do get it evened out, I won't loose too much length. Thanks again for your continued support!
You probably know my answer. I prefer the all-one-length look and kept cutting the back of my hair until I achieved it.
There are definitely very diverse opinions among longhairs on this subject. It's really just personal preference. If you like it better this way then by all means go for it!
Thanks Jason! And yeah, I know your answer. ;) I'll probably look into getting it cut to an even length, or possibly a U cut. Thanks again for your input!
It IS up to you, but I think it looks fine.
However, since it's your hair, you should do what you want. It looks awesome to me, but that's just my opinion, and your hair isn't on my head. ^^
If you're aiming for mid-lower back though, keep in mine you may have to continuously cut the ends to keep the length even.Ends tend to thin the long they're there, and it produces a 'u-shaped' type thing, so watch out if you want evenness.
Thanks GlassEyes! I was actually thinking about getting a U cut for that exact reason. By the way, your hair looks fantastic! Lots of great curls. Keep up the impressive growing! :)
Heh, thank you. ^^
It's completely up to you, obviously, Brandon. However, it should work well for you to get a straight-edge cut, especially with how quickly your hair grows. I'm more partial to the V or U shape, but that's just my personal position. Hope you're doing well. =)

Thanks James! While I don't really care much for the V cut, the U cut I actually like fairly well. It might be another alternative to the straight edge cut. Thanks for your input! :)
Hi Brandon,
That's a tough one to answer. For me I just let mine grow for the first 3 years and have an even up trim. I can't really say I remember the difference in length from the front to the back, but I was just so pleased that it got longer and longer.
At the end of the day whether you go for a all one length of the more natural U it's your choice. The only important piece of advice any of us can give here is find a trusted stylist as I'd hate the see that great progress you have made.
I hope that helps mate.
Cheers,
John.B
If your ends are not damaged I personally would wait until your hair grows longer to even it out. I'm thinking of getting mine cut to an even length now as well because my ends are becoming more and more damaged and I'm starting to not like my hair for the feel. I'm a little scared and will wait and I recommend you wait too, a good two weeks as most people say and if your still determined to do it go for it.

looks great bro def gained some lenth and is very healthy looking! dude rock out! lol :)
I must warn you that you should trim regularly to keep the even ends, because not all the strands grow at the same rate.
I think I'm at the same point Brandon. When I stopped cutting my hair the back and top were at the same length, maybe an inch long. That's probably a 4 inch difference. Now that I'm at mid-back you can actually see that section that originates from the back of my head, it's still about 4 inches different. You don't see it when my hair is in my ponytail so I choose to ignore it but if I were to wear my hair loose all the time I would probably want to even it out a bit.
Whatever you do, make sure the person you chose to cut your hair can be trusted to do want you want. I know there are hair stylists that may have their own opinions of long hair on men and would be influenced by that.
