Hey guys, just an experience before I post my update pictures. I was just walking around my block about an hour ago (Just a little side-job, I help my brother deliver pamphlets in the area for some pocket change). Well, I was just walking up the street, when a car drove past; had about 4 lebonese blokes in it, and one of them shouted out 'Cut your hair you f'ing queer'. Well, I usually try to control my temper, but when smug c*cks like this have a go at my hair, or my tatt, my earring etc - I get royally ticked off. Anywho, I screamed out for them to come back and say it to my face, accompanied by some interesting gestures, and they actually did reverse back.
It was the guy in the passenger seat that had yelled it out, and as they pulled back to where I was he said 'So, you got a f'ing problem goldilocks queer?' Now, no need to be a wordsmith here, i just said 'yep', and reached into the car and strangled the prick, and gave him a knock in the head or two. The two in the back pretty much didn't move the whole time, they were pretty young I think... but the driver was punching my forearm something fierce, so I ended up having to let go. The dude in the passenger seat spat at me after that and they drove off.
Now i'm left still fuming, I really didn't get a full shot of how bad I wanted to bust up one of these guys; and especially the fact they still had the gall to spit at me.
Now, this isn't so much a 'long hair revenge' sort of fight. I just lose it with judgemental people all together. You just get this urge inside to knock some goddamn sense into them.
So, now that i've vented and calmed down a bit... I'll post my update pictures - i've also put on about 4kg (9lb) of muscle (hopefully hehe, maybe a bit is fat :)) in the last couple months. Been trying to weightlift a bit more solidly now, I'd say my bench is about... 100kg's at the moment (220lb) Which isn't huge by bodybuilding standards (I'm looking to reach benching 135kg or 300lb), but i'm about 88kg's (195lb) and I used to be a total weed who couldnt bench 30kilos 2 years ago hehe.
Also, as the title suggests, i'd like to hear if any of you have ever gotten into a physical fight after being picked on for being a long hair.
-Cheers!
Thanks mate. Usually it's not a good idea to pick a fight with one of them, as before long you'll wonder where 20 of them have come from. I'm sure everyone agrees that calling in the 'cousins' though is such a dog act. One on one fighting is long dead it'd seem.
Yeah...I'm going to say this. Fighting them probably wasn't a good idea. You never know how many random people can just show up an pummel you into jello. Not saying that you're weak or weak looking at all (you're someone I would never pick a fight with), but they come back with 20 people and you're doomed.
That and if you grow long hair, you're gonna come in contact with stuff like that, so ignoring them and knowing that their opinions don't matter seems like something you and anyone else here should learn. I've been called a girl, I've been told to decide my freaking gender, all because my hair is even a TINY bit longer than average. Fighting just seems stupid.
And with that said, your hair is cool. Heh, and someone clalling you Goldilocks would amuse me because of the simple irony of it (little girl =/= Strong muscular dude).
Yup, I know what you're saying. It was do to the insult of the hair, but it was just a snap for the most part, sort of yelled at them on impulse, then when they pulled up and continued on with the crap... well.. there was no stopping there! lol
But i'll second that, random fights are a bad idea, if not simply for the fact you have no idea what you're in for (guns, knives, a whole fleet showing up hehe)
Wow, I bet these guys were not ready for that, and will think
twice about harrassing longhairs in the future. It would be
wise to be on the lookout for them in the future just to be
safe.
Height and limb length play a major role in how much
weight you will be able to ultimately raise. Long limbs have
to raise the weight a longer distance. Short limbs
raise the weight a shorter distance. It is very rare for a
man 200cm in height to lift 150% of his weight, but quite
common for men 160cm tall to be able to do so. There is a
lot of physics here the many people don't consider.
Your hair looks fantastic. I like the very cool primative
design tattoo. It goes well with the hair for sure. I tend
to avoid fights. Here in ths states people use handguns to
settle things usually resulting in someone dying or being
maimed.
Scott
Thanks for the compliment on the hair and that tatt scott. I've always liked the design of that particular tribal, not that it come's with huge meaning, but it is an empowering and cool looking design. My next, I plan on getting a half sleeve dragon. I've always loved the symbolism of the dragon, protection, power, courage etc.
Yup, I know about that fact too - the weight distribution is affected in a way that causes those with longer limbs to be able to put up less than one with stocky limbs. I've always found my bench to be my weakest lift. I mean, 100kg isn't bad, but i've seen some REALLY stocky bastards my age put up like 130kg. I try dumbells sometimes instead so i can control the fixture of my arms. Just takes a bit more work for my longer arms :)
I tend to avoid random fights like that usually, for the fact that it is easy to get ganged up on, stabbed, shot. Just put it down to a testosterone snap hehe. It does sicken me that people seek to maim/kill using guns and knives and such for such trivial things as a generic fight sometimes - true cowardice.
Hi Aj
Your hair looks great man. Those blonde curly locks look quite healthy and suit you very well. As for physical fights, I've never been into many, Probably twice during high school. I have never had anyone verbally insult me in the street about my hair either, however, I've had angry drivers flick me off while I've been driving during rush hour. LOL! It's quite hilarious actually.
They get all angry and worked up about insignificant things. I always smile at them while they are insulting me and patiently drive listening to "101.5 Lite FM"(That station is a great stress reliever).
I ten to avoid fights whether they be physical or verbal. I will only fight if there is no other option and I must do whatever necessary to defend myself. Fights are a very serious matter. You know how they start but you never know how they may end.
No way will I let the scum of society get the best of me by merely shouting out vulgarities.
Lol, yup, I don't know why they even bother really. Like its some kind of moral accomplishment that they've hurled abuse at someone who has long hair. I cop it all the time. I don't care usually, like when I went to Christmas lunch at a fairly fancy restaurant and all the old hags were staring at me like I was walking with Hitler or something. Giving a smile is usually a good way to tick them off - or if they're half decent - change their judgement.
P.S I might not be crusing by at reasonable decibels on the speakers though \m/\m/ ;) I guess that's one stereotype I live up to! But hey, how can you not love metal :P
Hi AJ!
Now I have to say I'm very impressed by your pics but from what I remember they have always been outstanding.Sorry to hear about your incident with the goons in the car but thankfully nothing bad really happened mainly to you as who cares about the others.Thankfully I have never had that happen to me but I do remember long ago someone shouting from a moving vehicle the standard "Get a haircut" line.LOL.I'm not one to get POed that easily but if pushed far enough I will pop off!LOL.
You workout looks like its working well for you as I have never been able to lift heavy weights.Probably due to my really long arms and legs.I'm just satisfied to keep my body toned and maintain my mean and lean appearance:)Looks great with my longhair I think as others may feel differently. You however carry it off to a "T" with the body, longhair, tats:)) Anyway thanks for the great pics and glad to see you post again. As always I've selected my favorite pic even though it was tough.Take care my friend and be safe!Mark
Thanks mate, I always enjoy your responses. Ah.. the 'Get a haircuts!' how many times i've secretely wanted people who shout that from a car to experience some 'vehicular failure'. Perhaps i'm just evil :P
I do like your physique too, Amazing how long hair can suit any frame, i think the 'lean and mean' suits you to a T hehe.
Likewise mate, take care, keep safe!
Not had any physical fight over it yet myself, but i must give you one piece of advice mate;
Ignoring those kids would have been the best way to get at them, do not give them your attension.
From retaliating you have;
-Probably been angry for the rest of the day
-Given them EXACTLY what they wanted, which is your time/energy and thoughts.
Was it worth it>?
The only reason you should fight is if you are in danger and there is no other option- in this situation then beat the crap out of them and make sure you know what your doing before being in this situation, when you got longhair you have to avoid submission holds/getting to close to them because they will rip your hair out of your scalp..
btw its a good idea to tie your hairback and wear a hood if your gonna have to fight..
i know this from things ive personally seen happen, one time somone i knew got held down on the floor with his hair being pulled at as hard as the guy could for atleast a minitue until people managed get the guy off.
you will never know pain worse than that.
It wasn't exactly a huge fight, but I can imagine my long hair being a bit of a hindrance. If i had the time, i'd tie it up and assume the battle pose if the situation arose..haha!
And ahhh! thats a nightmare!. I can only imagine how much that'd hurt.
Though I've known pain's worse than that. I.E the ex and her monthlies. You do that math :D
Yeah, I know the usual rules of engagement, so to speak. Was more of the fact I chose to ignore it. I know that by the book advice and probably 95% of the time the proper thing to do is to let it slide, but every one of us gets that time where we're sick of being civil and just say 'bugger it' It's a lapse in better judgement, but its my consequence of what happened.
So in retrospect... not really worth it. It wasn't really a true snap so to speak either, was more of just a 'f*ck it, i'll call them out and see what happens' Didn't really expect them to come back lol. Snapping is when someone hurts your girl to get a reaction out of you. And oh dear... a reaction do they get. I'll leave you to surmise there heh.
The message though kids, don't fight unless its in self defense. But if you do, then its true that you've got to live with the consequences of whatever comes of it.
P.S agree on the hair pulling, i've had it done to me, even in just mucking around, it's far from fun, and usually causes me to tap out :P lol
'So, you got a f'ing problem goldilocks queer?'
hahahahahah! Now, that's a good one.
The truth is that at least one of the guys in the car probably liked your hair and such feelings confuse a lot of men and when they don't understand their feelings they often resort to violent behaviour as a primitive reaction.
Well, that's my theory.
Actually, it is the spit thing that would bother me. Yuck!
jeffrey.
I actually got a laugh out of the goldilocks queer comment too :D
It's really sad, I mean... I didn't have a go at him about his 'i'm Leb 4 life' logo on his bonnet. And come on.. i'm leb for life? Duh, you are lebonese, i don't see it changing? lol Sounds more like a prison sentence than an affirmation. I agree with your theory too.
Yeah, the whole spitting incident is what left me fuming for the rest of the day! Bunch of scum!
Hi AJ,
Thanks for posting the update pictures and you look in very good shape and weights are keeping you in trim and the hair is looking in amazing condition as well.
As for people that shout abuse where ever possible I try and ignore and a comment that be turned back at them and not to provoke that's for sure. I'm quiet well built myself and as a kid I used to do judo at to a black belt, not that I use it off the mat or anything. For me I certainly would not argue with someone that you can see goes to training anf I'm not scared but sometimes things can be easier for a quiet life.
I hope to consider you as a friend and not an enemy.
Cheers,
John.B
Usually , i like to keep to myself as well. I do have a tendency to snap very badly if anyone hurts my family/partner however. In such cases... no rules apply, at all.
This was more of an arrogant sort of snap I guess, I didn't expect them to come back either, was more of a boast, but I just followed through when it was obvious what they may try at that point.
I'm a red belt at tae kwon do myself, but I am quite wary if I were to get into a fight with an experienced black belt. I'm quite fine to hold my own if its just the usual wrestle you see in a fight, and I can strike fairly well with the TKD, but i'd rather not do anything, most of the time.
I'd hopefully look to garner no enemies! You sound like a good bloke too John. And I appreciate the hair compliment. Keep safe, take care.
--Anthony
Can't say as I've ever gotten into any kind of situation over long hair, other than just to dismiss someone with a nice "shut the hell up" or "f*ck off", but that's just me. Probably wasn't the smartest idea to fight those guys, but at least you walked away from it rather cleanly.
Anyways, your hair is looking great still, AJ. Glad to see you around the board again. Hope all is otherwise well with you down in Oz. =)
-James
Yeah, i recognise the lapse in judgement. Probably wasn't the best idea - but we all get a little full of ourselves sometimes, its like proving a point to yourself when you know the answer; silly. lol
Thanks ;) i'm also trying CO washing lately. Hair texture has improved tenfold.
everything is good down in OZ besides the ridiculous heat :P
cheers!
Anthony, You have the most beautiful blond curls. I know you won't let these guys and their childish insolence get to you. Looks like you got your point across. "By any means necessary"
Interestingly enough as a gay man with long hair I have never encountered such a situation and usually get mistaken for being straight. Oh Well!
peace, jonalbear
Thanks jonalbear, and it just goes to show, its childish to call anyone gay or straight just based on hair type. There are a lot of insolent people in this world. Some of which i'd rather see get some sense knocked into them. These guys with all the flashy leb related stuff, done up cars, 'canterbury bulldogs' bumperstickers (im actually a bulldogs fan too! lol), and you know the most interesting part of all? They all had (in part) sorta long hair!!!
It's actually a lebanese style over here, you have your whole head shaved, but at the back, you have a few strands of extremely curly hair, and usually it goes to about the bottom of the neck. What a bunch of F'ing idiots. lol
Might I add too, your hair looks excellent, I always like those waves. I've coined my hair 'Wurly' though :P I can't decide if its more wavy than curly or more curly than wavy :P
cheers
"Lebanese" is slang for "Lesbian", at least it is around these parts, and they ragged on you for, perhaps mistakingly, being gay. They had more unusual hair styles than you have, and they ragged on you for yours. The whole scene has me laughing at them, in retrospect. Thilly Lebanese boiz.
Bill
Woops! my typo hehe, yup we use that slang too. Misstyped Leb'O'nese hehe. They're not the brightest bunch lol. The hoons are the worst ones, the one's that hang around the harbour of a night, taunt the cops and drag race lol
Remember, when you wrestle with a pig, you both get muddy and the pig enjoys it.
As others have said, ignoring such people is the best tack. Not only does it avoid fights and minimize your internal anxiety, it also is the greatest put-down you can mete out. Snubbing them says, "You are so insignificant that you are not worth my time or attention."
"Ignoring" is the best approach to all socially inappropriate behavior, unless they make it become physical. In that case, of course, one must defend himself.
Bill
I like that initial quote, fits well.
Yeah, i've mentioned it in other responses. When i'm in my right mind, it doesnt seem worth the effort, as it happens all the time anyway. It was just an arrogant snap for the most part. Not to say they didn't deserve it.. but yep, ingoring is best.
It is the first time I haven't felt remorse over it though, only for my own lack of levelheaded-ness. Usually after a fight, i'll get all introspective and down. Even though its always been defending myself or my family.
Ah well, best not to dwell :)
cheers bill!
I know the feeling, i feel the same everyday while bus-travelling to school >:(
Don't care about those "jealous" (yes,i think they're all jealous) people, you have an excellent head of hair! (and you're cute too ;D )
I know! it gets you so riled up. I do my best to ignore it for the most part though. And thanks for the hair and overall compliment ;)
heh, almost everyday i fight someone inside the bus...as i ignore them, they keep on doing wrong and at the end i just let myself go :D though i don't usually punch them LOL
Reminds me of how tough it was growing my hair out in my last year of school. Surprised I kept my cool the whole time! Well untill school had finished atleast and they didn't have the authorities (aka teachers) to hide behind *evil smile* :P
you were lucky! Guys in our school were not permitted to have hair longer than 5 centimeters! And the pressure came from the "administrators" so no-one was bullied because of long hair :P
Ah, we weren't either :P I went to a farily strict catholic school. I just dodged the teachers all the time, and went to all kinds of measures like slicking it back with gel and everything! blech! the price i went through to start the long hair journey early! haha
Well, it was a catholic school, i said.. 'But.. Jesus had long hair! whats the problem?' lol.
good point there! :P
it was impossible to have long hair in our school. There was no way out :( maybe our boys weren't that dedicated, because we girls could somehow keep our make-ups untouched LOL
Some people said I was gay because I had long hair. I was waiting for the bus, and they drove by and stopped just for telling me that... I was so angry and dissapointed. I remembered their licence plate and saw in which direction they were driving, so I decided to go there too. I found their car and decided to gaze upon it with my keys. I felt kinda satisfied.
Gaze - such an interesting euphemism for wanton destruction :D LOL i got a kick out of that little tale! Perhaps arson was more in order :P *all that could be seen was a single shadowy figure strolling away from the blazing inferno, whistling and flicking back their hair..* :D
My English is quite bad, but I ment 'gaze' in the scratchy way. I schratched some of the car's paint of with my keys. And an arson would be nice for intolerant people like them, but I don't want to spend the night in jail. Lol.
Ah, "graze". The use of the word "upon" caused me to miss the intended meaning as well, since one just grazes stuff while one gazes upon stuff.
Bill
I know :) was just one of my joking tangents :)
WAY TO GO DUDE.
No fight story here but I would agree with the others, it's better to not even give the ignorant fools the time of day. Aside form that, your hair is in superb condition and you have a lot to be proud of, getting into good physical shape.
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Thanks :) i've been trying CO washing as of late and its really improved my hair texture. Ta for all compliments :)
Hey man, your hair is looking superb. The earring and tattoo compliment your style very well. I'm glad to hear you're focusing on weight lifting and exercise, its a very positive thing.
As for the whole "people shouting from cars" issue, I've pretty much dealt with it my entire life (long before I started growing out the hair). I used to have a paper route in a pretty rough section of town starting when I was about 11, and even though I was obviously a young kid people felt the need to bust my chops all the time. I've learned to not even look at someone when they drive by and shout an insult. I understand how infuriating situations like this can be, but definitely keep a level head and try not to let anything escalate into a real problem. Have a good one!
Peace,
Ryan
Thanks Ryan. It would seem a lot of us would have to deal with it, it doesnt really seem to bother me anymore because I usually get the whsitles from the young birds driving past :D But I did lose my temper, just a lapse in my usual better judgement.
Your hair looks awesome too btw, curls are excellent.
never been in a fight but had stupid rednecks call me queer and mam for having long hair i just cuss their a** out and they usually leave me alone,6ft and 235lbs im not a small guy so alot of em dont bother with me cause they know better haha
AJ:
All I can say is WOW....you have a great look! I am sure the boys were just jealous! You may have to get used to it my friend. Keep it growing... what is your goal length???
Admiringly,
Jules
Thanks Jules :) My goal length is about... to the bottom of my pecs i'd say. that'll take quite a while, as at current length, it has been 32 months, and its not there yet! maybe two more years and i'll be there.
cheers
Hey AJ, great update, your look is very cool, great head of hair and great body...keep up the good work.
I applaud you for taking a stand with these jerks, although in some/most cases it's advisable to just ignore the situation, but it's refreshing to hear that sometimes these idiots get what they deserve. Perhaps they'll think twice before they do it to someone else. Too bad you didn't get a chance to really deck that "a"hole!
Cheers,
Max
Hey guys, just an experience before I post my update pictures. I was just walking around my block about an hour ago (Just a little side-job, I help my brother deliver pamphlets in the area for some pocket change). Well, I was just walking up the street, when a car drove past; had about 4 lebonese blokes in it, and one of them shouted out 'Cut your hair you f'ing queer'. Anywho, I screamed out for them to come back and say it to my face, accompanied by some interesting gestures, and they actually did reverse back.
I know! If you do a job, you always want to do it right! but i think they got the message. I did contemplate not doing anything... but this guy was just so freakin' smug and up himself, he was just begging to get belted.
and ta for the compliments!
cheers
Thanks mate, much appreciated! 2 more years and it'll be where I want it hehe
Hi AJCashman,
Thank you for sharing your story, and good for you for standing up to these jerks! There are far too many of these types around, who get their "kicks" out of putting other people down.
Also, your hair is awesome, and you are blessed with shiny and healthy curls.
Take care,
David
Heya David, good to hear from you again. I did feel accomplished by taking a stand until i got spat on, and then they drove off, damn cowards. I did get a shot or two in though, and it felt gooood :P I share the sentiment that there are too many people like that out there, if only they could each get a punch to the head hehe.
And thanks! i'm doing my best to keep my hair as shiny and healthy as possible :)
cheers!
Hey Anthony that was a cool story and although we don't officially
recommend revenge and or violence, (grin.....wink) it's nice to think you gave the passanger a bit of a rattle and they may think twice before making comments to people in the future.
As for your update it's great and the hair rocks. I also rather like the tatoo on your arm could you tell me a bit about it.
I'm curious hoe you came to choose it and all that.
Cheers
Kevin
Hehe thanks Kevin. Makes me wonder if they will actually come back again. Who knows.
Well, when I began growing long hair, my opinions on self improvement, more out there things etc started to change. I had an increasing urge to start weightlifting, I went and got an ear piercing (nothing too out there, but it was to me at the time lol) and then i started contemplating getting a tatt. I wanted something that looked sharp and in black ink. An armband. I actually liked the look of a particular armband of a wrestler named "randy orton" much more coverage than mine - I didn't want something particularly that large. This tattoo is called 'Rise', I foudn it on the net, and kept it for a year before deciding it was right for me. It doesn't have a direct meaning per se, but i find it empowering. My next tattoo is going to be a half sleeve dragon, of which i've always loved the symbolism, power, pride, protection, courage (keeping a more chinese dragon feel more than a western dragon feel) I'll post a rough idea of something i've been photoshopping.
left is the original, i wasnt as happy with the on to the pec thing, so i photshopped it to the shoulder.
This is sort of rough, theres not really a head of the dragon on what i photoshopped, was trying to make it as transparent as i could to fit it on, but just for a general idea and i quite like it
Not sure if you'll be scrolling down this far still but I was looking over the dragon and my thought is consider making it a bit smaller. Why? As your lifting weight your arms will look good on their own so you don't want to cover them up too much with artwork just some to compliment. I'm not sure if that makes sense the way I described it. I notice very muscular people get more subtle tatts
and those with more mediocre bodies tend to get more dramatic tatts covering a larger area.
Cheers
Kevin
