Back when my hair was shorter, I could tell the difference between your regular Shampoo and Conditioner. It used to make my hair feel softer, smoother, etc. but nowadays, as I hit 12 months, I think I'm better off with just adding shampoo to my hair as I'm starting to notice that conditioners would make my hair feel like plastic when wet and sort of clay-like when dry. Not very good...
Am I better off with just using shampoo?
Sounds like buildup, try and find a shampoo that has "Clarifying" on the bottle. Some say that because it's harsher you should deep-condition afterwards, but I never do.
Emagdne, Yes using a clarifying shampoo once a week and a deep conditioning works wonders for me. After clarifying apply liberal amounts of conditioner and let it stand in your hair for at least 3 to 4 minutes. Then thoroughly rinse out all of the conditioner.
Remember once a week is sufficient. Washing your hair with regular shampoo twice a week is also sufficient. Scrub with just water any other time you take a shower.

I think washing in water depends on hair type. If you have fine hair then I'd discourage it because mine is fine and goes lank when I've only used water.
Kanden, Good point! My hair is very thick.

Very nice info. I wash my hair every 2 days since it gets very oily overnight. So, that's usually 3 times per week. Should I only use a clarifying shampoo once a week only just in case I get any build-up and wash regularly the other two times? Also, would it be a good idea to apply conditioner the other two times or will applying ONLY after clarifying be enough? Please take the time to read this, and reply back. Thanks!
Try looking for a conditioner/shampoo with less synthetics. If you can't understand the words, that's a clue. Basically anything ending in ...parabin or ...cone is a no no. I actually look up the ingredients on the web to find out what they are.
Try using a conditioner with less silicone. Anything in the shampoo ending in -siloxane, cone, or conol should be avoided. I use VO5 and it's realy, cheap, usualy under a dollar. IT works great.
to get rid of that wax, try a baking soda mix. Dissolve one tablespoon of baking soda in 2 cups of water. Feel free to use more water, BUT NEVER LESS WATER OR MORE BAKING SODA. It clarifies the hair. ^_^
