Hey, everyone. I've been thinking about geting a haircut of some sort, lately. I want a change, and the hair on my shoulders and face is getting bothersome. But i'm not sure how i'd like to get it. I've asked some people, and alot of them have said i should get it layered. I'm really not sure what that means, though. =p
Personally, i was thinking of something that is different length in different places. Like, shoulder length on the sides, longer in the back, shorter up front.
But, I dunno if that'd look good or whatnot.
Just thought i'd come here for some advice or suggestions. Anything, i'd appreciate. ^^
That IS what layering is about ;) It means cutting layers of your hair into different lengths progressively increasing towards the back.
One option is putting your hair up into a pony tail or a twist, that way your hair's out of your face without putting a scissor to it.
If you decide to get layers, have a good talk with your stylist first about getting layers best suited to your face and of course about your strict limit on how much hair the stylist is allowed to cut. It goes without saying you should find somebody you can trust explicitly not to snip off excessive length without your explicit consent.
Ah, i thought that might be what layering it... ^^;
But yes, i usually do wear it back into a tail. But i really like wearing my hair down too, instead of wearing it up all the time. So that's why I was thinking about getting a cut... though i'm still a little unsure.
And yes, i'm definitely going to make sure to have a good talk to my stylist. I've seen and heard too many stories where they don't do as they're told. =/
I'm actually really nervous about it for that reason...
but I think layers are anathema to having long hair. They'll screw up braids should you want to go that route and even put ponytails in some jeopardy if you want all the hair to reach the tie securely.
I think your hair looks great the way it is. Some guys would kill to have thick hair like you so why thin it by layering it?
I've never had layers but based on anecdotal evidence based on many personal accounts recounted at the Long Hair Community, most regret it and immediately begin the process of trying to get rid of them.
My suggestion would be to vary styles. Instead of a regular ponytail, how about a halftail or braids or a segmented ponytail?
Yes, that is why i've been really nervous about getting it layered. I don't want to do something like that and then end up regretting it...
But i'll take your advice and try wearing it in some different styles.
Do you know of a good site or something that shows different ways t o wear long hair? Or know of some good ones?
Oh, and i have seen the sites on the links page.
Andrew,
Your hair looks great. What layering will do to your hair is make it bushy. If you have naturally curly/wavy hair and you get layers it just makes those curls or waves more prominent. I am betting that is probably not the result you are searching for. There are different types of layering available though. If you have seen hairstyles where the ends flip up a bit it is because they "tapered" the ends from top layer to the under layer. Then styles where the ends naturally curve under is where they "taper" the ends from the under layer to the top layer of your hair. I suggest always doing the latter, that way you don't end up looking like some college girl whose hair flips up.
Unless you are cool with using bobbie pins to pin back different layers when you braid or pull your hair back layers throughout your hair probably isn't the best way to go. Maybe try some styling tips like blowing your hair straight or using a bit of mousse and crunching your hair up to give you better curly locks.
If you do decide you want the change, I would make sure that your shortest layer be an inch to two inches below your chin, that way it blends in with the rest of your hair length and you end up with a "V" cut moreso than a mullet look.
DUDE>>>>DONT CUT IT MAN mines to my ass...im never cuttin mine...if you cut it u will be sorry later
