Hey felows!
I have a few quick question about trim.
1- What exactly is a trim?
2-What does it look like after trimed?
3-And what would be the differences between someone who gets trimed and someone who doesnt?
I ask this because I never realy knew what it realy is and one of my friend that is a girl told me that when you grow hair you should go do a trim once in a while.
1- There are various types of "trims". The one your friend probably meant was a maintenance trim. This is often called a "dusting". The hairdresser "trims" off the desired amount, which is usually a very small amount off the ends, so that you can get rid of splits and achieve "healthy" looking hair.
2- By "it", I suppose you mean the "hair". If the trim wasn't too drastic, it'll most likely appear healthier, a bit shorter, and the ends will probably look more blunt than before.
3- Those that trim their hair often usually have even-length hair.
Those that don't trim and grow out their hair usually have natural "layers" or a V-Shape.
Maintenance cuts are solely up to you. If you think you need one, and are experiencing LOTS of severe tangles, you should get one. Make sure it's a trustworthy hairdresser doing the cutting. The last thing you'd want is to lose too many inches because of a scissor-happy hairdresser.
Charles,
Chris gave you some seriously sound advice about trusting your stylist to not be scissor happy. I once went in for a trim and told the girl no more than two inches, I gasped and burst into tears when I saw she had actually cut off about 8 inches. I am going in for maintenance trim in the morning. Every time she trims my hair there is barely a noticeable difference. I always tell her, I dont want it to look like it was trimmed. They can trim your hair with an uneven cut so the ends arent blunt and straight across. Plus it helps to add the appearance of body and fullness to your hair. I prefer the uneven cut on myself because I dont like the blunt ends of a trim. I think it works better on hair that isnt straight and sleek. Of course, if your hair is straight and sleek then the blunt trim looks good and healthy. I know the recommended time for getting a trim is about every six weeks, I wish I could say I followed the rule, but I am kind of lazy about getting to the salon and I end up going about every 4-6 months, just about the time I am so frustrated with the way my hair looks because of the split ends. Hope this helps.
Thanks to both of you, it really helped me!
