George Harrison will always be remembered and revered by myself.
I was a teenager attending grade school when the "BEATLES" appeared on the "Ed Sullivan Show".......
I remember watching the show and especially "Ed Sullivan" when he introduced the "Beatles" for their very first live tv appearance.
"Ed Sullivan" too should be thanked and given his due place in "Long Hair History", for without him, the "Beatles" would have never made that very important appearance.
For those of you who view and interact with this board, here is some
information that you might not be aware of.
1.-TV had 3 networks NBC/CBS/ABC at this time in the 60's
2.-There was no cable/satellite or other tv providers...
3.-In order to watch tv, you NEEDED A ROOF MOUNTED TV ANTENNA OR "RABBIT EARS" to receive programs on tv.
4.-I do not remember for sure, but I think the "Ed Sullivan" show
was viewed as a CBS station..
5.-The "Beatles" were a backup "act" for the "Ed Sullivan" show, apparently another "act" cancelled out, and the "Beatles", by fate,
was given the chance for a tv network debut.
6.-Who knows what would have happened if the "Beatles" were never given the "opportunity" to appear at that time.
7.-My "generation" of teenagers were the driving force in our parents public acceptance.....after many personal trials and tribulations... that each of us across the United States, and the free world..helped to make happen.
8.-THANK YOU ALL OF YOU "BABY BOOMER GENERATION" FOR YOUR DESIRE TO BECOME A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF THE "LONG HAIR MOVEMENT"....
I was an eighth-grader then, but my school was called a "junior high school."
What about Golden West or MetroMedia or RKO, or were those considered minor networks?
that is, until the 1970's. But we did have UHF TV then.
Do you also remember the tube-testing machines at your local drug store?
Yes, it was on CBS.
A few years later, the BEATLES appeared on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, courtesy of the BBC.
Perhaps less screaming from teenage fans?
That was my "generation", too!
And I thought that the BEATLES started the first HIPPIES!
