hi guys, i'm was lurking around here for more than a year, but i think its time to post something now. well, i'm from germany i'm 18 years old and i'm growing out my hair for problably 25 months.
but there's a problem: my mom doesn't like it when i don't have my hair tied together and that's why i'm having arguments with her pretty often. but to avoid this, most of the time i'm wearing a ponytail (maybe for 8 months or so), because that's ok for her. but now i'm worried that i could get bald because my hair is combed back all the time. so, is there a possibility how i could prevent this damage, because no one in my family is bald, not even my grandfather, and i don't really want to start with it. so, in the worst case i would just cut it all off instead of getting bald. i'd be very grateful if you could help me with my problem.
greetings, joe
PS: i'm gonna take some photos tomorrow, so that you can tell me if it's already that bad.
i really appreciate your help, thank you very much. you really relievd me, and maybe i just have a high forehead and it has nothing to do with going bald. here are some picks i shot today. i hope it doesnt bother you that i'm not so keen on showing my face on the internet(sorry for the poor quality)
I have a high forehead aswell mate, i look at pictures of myself when i was 8 and it hasen't changed. Aslong as your hairline isn't going into a deeper V shape you probly aint balding.
Yeah, don't worry about it too much. I have the same hairline and it hasn't changed one bit. In fact, I almost have the same hair type... Anyways, best of luck on your growth. =)

I don't think you need to worry as long as you're not pulling your hair back so tight that you're eyes are popping out of your head. Bind the hair at the back but make sure the weight of the ponytail is not carried by just a few hairs on the top of your head. It's like the trapeze artist that swings in the air by her(or his) hair. Try that with just a few hairs and SPLAT! But with equal tension on all the hairs, success!

The problem you're talking about it traction alopecia. This problem is related to the traction of the hair, happening when you pull it really tightly. I see this kind of hair loss on some african ladies, and I assume it's because of all those tight tight cornrows.
You can wear your hair in a ponytail without having to pull it back. I never did that to my hair and in the few times I've tried I noticed hair coming out. I would suggest you to do a part on your hair (center or side) and keep using it. This way you won't have to pull your hair back. Good luck! And happy growing!
Welcome aboard by the way!
from tying your hair in a ponytail. I tie mine in a rope ponytail with multiple ties and it is a meter in length. See photo. I have among the longest hair of anyone here. There are only 2 people here (that I know of) that have longer hair. I am living proof that a ponytail does not cause baldness.

You will not go bald from wearing a pony tail.

Howdy fella no worries I've been wearing my hair in a ponytail every day for 10 years and I have no sign of balding. As long as you don't pull it back really tight you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
Cheers,
RM
It isn't the ponytail, but the 'tightness' of it.
You wear a loose ponytail ('loose' meaning not pulling your face up into your scalp) and you're fine.
