Does anyone else like long haired men with stretched earlobes? I've noticed it fairly often here where I live, Portland Oregon, and it really looks good. I'm thinking about stretching my pierced ears to about an inch or inch and a half diameter. Of course I know that you have to start the stretching process very gradually. And I may be happy by getting to a 1/2 inch diameter and stopping there - we'll have to see. I especially like the disks and plugs made of beautiful natural woods - it seems to go especially well with long hair. I also like the idea of my long hair covering the stretched earlobes if I am feeling a bit "shy" about sometimes exposing them. Otherwise, I really think it looks especially great when guys wear their hair in a bun high up on their head - that really shows off their stretched earlobes. I am not of of the "young ones" - I'm 58 - but I do really love this look. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Does anyone out there have stretched earlobes with their wonderful long hair? Thanks! Johnnie
If you decide you don't want them anymore; how will you get back to normal?
If you don't go beyond 1/2" diameter, once you take them out, the holes usually close up after a while. If you go larger, you can have plastic surgery to restore the lobe. I know this look isn't for everybody (obviously) but I do like the look when it is done with long hair. Maybe someone else has some thoughts?
Thanks, Johnnie
I don't like the look, but its your opinion that counts. So long as you can go back if you don't like the look, I cant say why you shouldn't do it, so go for it! =)
Thanks Will for your thoughts. And I really appreciate everyone's thoughts here. That is, of course, why I posted my questions - stretching one's earlobes is indeed a commitment that requires thorough thinking. Thank goodness growing long hair is more fun! Best to everyone, Johnnie
Ouch!
Darn, John B. With your English heritage and living in London, I was hoping you would like the idea! Cheers, Johnnie
Johnnie, your post reminds me of a man I saw at a housewarming party once. He had white, balding hair of some length held in a ponytail on the top of his head. His large stretched earlobes were held by bright green tubes and there was a matching tube through his nose somewhere. He struck me as just a neat person to know for his ability to stand out in a very different way and be comfortable with it.
Go ahead and live your desire for stretched earlobes. The only thing I would caution is that there is no hiding it, the hair above your ears is a small patch so it doesn't cover much. Also, once you have some length it wouldn't stay in place to minimize views of your lobes anyway.

I know of 2 guys personally who have done that, --- one guy was a co-worker whom I haven't seen in several years. He was also into dying his hair many different colors, changing the color almost as often as weekly (his hair was short). The other guy I know has now moved up to Seattle, --- a fellow dancer, and in his case, he has HUGE holes in his earlobes!!!
Never thought of it too much myself, --- and oddly enough, I've never seen it on a guy w/ long hair (YET, anyway... so, go ahead and be the first - lol)....
Take Care,
Ken
Hi Ken, Thanks very much for your thoughts. You did bring up a good point...the big holes that are there when the ear disks or plugs aren't. I'd better give some thought to that (just like when guys need to "think twice" before cutting their hair!).
At least my hair continues to grow while I think about the earlobes. Best, Johnnie
Personally I do not like stretched ear lobes. I am not surprised that others are affirmatvie of your individual choice, because I beleive we all know that we long hairs have been victeim of discrimination, so we do not impose universal standared. We are predisposed to be libertarians.
This is in contrast to my having bi-lateral piercings in which I wear every day, without chagne, small platimum hoops.
I hope to hear from you in your decision making process.
My earrings have symbolic significance to me. I hope you are well grounded in what you do.
Bad idea imo, it may be cool for a month or two, but how are you gonna feel when you look in the mirror as a 60 year old man with extra long ears with big holes in them lol.
Yes, I know and it has been around for at least 10 years here and not all that uncommon a sight. The look can be really neat. As long as you do not exceed 00 Gage, the earlobes will return after about a month leaving just what appears to be the normal small indent left by a small earing. If you exceed the 00 Gauge this will not happen.
I used to have long hair and stretched earlobes, but I cutted my hair off because I had way too much hairloose because of my medicines and my hair started to look so thin. I kinda regret that I ever stretched my ears, they look disgusting now, and it doesn't grow back anymore.
I can't say I think much of it myself but if you want to go for it. It looks kind of odd to me.

In my opinion, and it is JUST my opinion... If you're going to do the huge piercings in the ears, you might as well go all out with full body tattooing and other piercings on the face and body. And actually, this goes better with a shaved head.

I think it looks gross, and just plain silly and weird.
