What's up? I am new to this website and I love it.You guys are great.I need all of your help. I want to grow my hair long. I had tried before but my previous job made me cut it off.(What a waste of time) I have a new job now and I look forward to growing my hair long again. OK, here is my first question...For about a year now I had to comb my hair to the side (The newsman hairdo) and now I want to part it down the middle but one side parts perfectly but the other wants to flip to the other side...any suggestions? Thanks alot and bless !!

First, welcome to the site!
As for the part, it will depend on your hair type (mine is wavy), but my hair didn't part nicely down the middle until it was about four inches long. Gel or hairspray might help a bit, but the best solution is probably more length.
Good luck!
Mouse
I don't want to be discouraging, but you may not be able to pull off a center part. I have tried numerous times to part in the center, but my hair refuses.
In your case, you may just need more length, but if it still doesn't work, a side part can be cool too.
Hi Will,
I would like to extend my warmest welcome to you, and am delighted that you have found the hyperboard. You have graet quality hair to grow long, and you will get a lot of support from all of us as you grow towards your goal. Don't worry about the parting issues you are experiencing right now. They are all part of the "awkward phase", and as your hair gets longer, these problems will pass.
Keep it growing,
David
Hi and welcome to the Hyperboard. Glad you like it here so well.
As for the part, I would say at present that your hair is too short, but just you wait. When long enough (within the next year and 2 years definately) the hair has a way of parting all by itself in the center for most everybody.
Hi Wiil, --- and WELCOME!!
For most of us that have grown our hair out already, --- especially for those of us that have had to go through the infamous "awkward stages" not just once, but TWICE --- it's now easy to reflect back on how every little mini-change in our hair's growth from short to long seemed incredibly noticeable in it's weirdness at first (especially true during the first time growing it out)... One day my hair flipped to the left; the next day, to the right, --- and maybe I wanted it to do NEITHER (lol)!!
As you gradually gain length, your hair will morph in shape / appearance / degree of waviness, etc., and make many alterations in how it moves about and around your head, face, neck, and eventually down your shoulders, etc., --- until one day when you suddenly realize that long hair is not quite the same "species" as its more cooperative, obedient relative, "the Short-hair!" In other words: don't worry about where or how you part your hair for now (because your hair will eventually decide this for you - lol)!! Although I believe (as others have already said in their replies) that PROBABLY your hair will be easier to part in the middle after you gain more length; there is unfortunately no "guarantee" that your hair will cooperate exactly with your will on this issue... Better to approach long hair as a journey to a new and distant land that's full of exotic and unexpected twists, turns, & surprises, than outlining too closely how you expect everything to turn out.... Which can lead to becoming very disappointed that it didn't end up *exactly* as you had planned... Whatever Mother Nature gifted you with, --- be it hair that is curly, wavey, straight, thick or thin, etc. --- as your hair gets longer, the more you'll learn to let go of the little things... and just revel in the joy of discovering what it naturally does on its own!
Clear as mud (lol)?? Well, I hope at least SOMEthing in what I said made sense, --- AND proves helpful in the future!
Check out our Links page for some great reads about long hair, --- my favorite being Bill Choisser's, "On Being A longhair"... Happy reading, and again, WELCOME!

Ken,
I wanted to first of all thank you for suggesting the "On Being A longhair" read, and second for giving such inspired advice.
and Will,
Hang in there, for the first 7 months of growing for me my hair did NOTHING that I wanted and is the main reason I kept on cutting my hair after 8 months. But thanks to the many people on this site with great advice I have learned to let go and just see what I can do with my hair. I have some great new things I have done, and makes me realize that there is so much more you can do with long hair or in my case, medium hair then I ever could with short hair.
And on a personal note for me I am 6 weeks to hitting double digits months for the first time :-)

Welcome Rob!
For years I parted my hair on the left, but when I started to get long hair I switched to the right. Now that my hair is past shoulder length, it want to part itself in the middle. When your hair is a bit longer you'll find it easy to change the part.
Also the time to change the part is after you've showered.

Welcome. Lots of good advice given there. Ignore it for two years cept for wash, condition and brush/comb. It will be hell for awhile.
I agree with Mouse you'll just have to let it grow and see what it wants to do. To some degree you'll have to re train your hair to part the way you want. Growing your hair out is an adventure and you really don't know what it will do until it gets there.
Also a heary welcome to the board and may your longhair journey be a fun one.
Kevin
I know it's one of those annoying things when you are growing you hair out and I'm sure as it gets longer and the weight of the hair you will be able to part it as you want it. Give it time and keep it growing and also it's fun as you never quite know how longhair is going to turnout and always great surprise.
Cheers,
