Hi all,
I want to grow my hair to shoulder length, maybe longer. However, the sides (around my ears) and the bottom of the neck area of my hair is quite curly. Currently I have very short hair - 1/3 of an inch on the sides and 1 and 1/2 on the top (I keep it this short to keep the curlies away). Have any of had to deal with this while growing your hair out and do you have any tips or know how it may turn out once it is long? BTW, the curly hairs are not super tight but do form fairly tight rings.
-cheers,
brian
It sounds like you have hair that'l be straight at the top and form loose curls as it gets longer.
It's one of my favorite hair types actually, but trying to get straight hair would require more work and damage.
That is what my hair looks like. The sides and top are straight while the back is more wavy and curls at the ends. They started appearing after 5 months and still are there after 12 months. I find them ugly. <_< Want to swap hair types? lol
I have uber curly hair. XD
Well, damn...enjoy your hair, because I can't cope with just curly ends. Heh.
Get some cheap gel, any brand, and comb or press those curly sides and back down until they dry, then gently comb. When your hair gets to 4 - 6 inches, Then I have another method. But it is difficult to get beyond these beginning stages, especially for those of us with curly hair.

My hair's only wavy rather than curly, but the hairs just behind my ears seem to grow straight out, which is a similar problem. I think about all you can do while they grow is to gel them into submission. The curls should stretch out as the hair gets longer, but be warned, the hair on the sides and the nape of the neck often don't get much longer than a couple of inches. Mine are like that, so I usually just trim them every month or so.
