Hey MLHH! I know this is probably a stupid question, but bear with the guy that has never had longer hair before! Is there anything that can be done with static electricity in the hair? I have not had this issue come up before, but the last three days have been rediculous! I have thought about rubbing my head with a Bounce dryer sheet! LoL not really! But seriously, is there anything I can do? Thanks in advance, Brian
I usually just wet my hands and run them over my hair. That seems to solve the problem.

Brian,
I have been having the same problem with my hair and massive amounts of static. I started conditioning it constantly and it would help for about the first 5 minutes then as soon as I put on my jacket or a scarf...it reappeared.
I went to my stylist last week and mentioned my problem to her. She said that I was using too much conditioner and my hair was too soft thus producing more static. She suggested I use a good clarifying shampoo, only condition the ends and use this great little product from Matrix called Sleek (smoothing system). Problem solved! I have been static free for almost 5 days. You have no idea how great it feels to be rid of that nasty static.
Hope this helps.

I feel your pain, and the shocks. I don't know if this is a smart move, but instead of the dryer sheets, I've been using a VERY dilute solution of liquid fabric softener on the ends, that seems to be working for me.
Ok, I discovered it by accident, I was doing three things at once (I'm a girl, I can multitask), and as I was getting the wet laundry out of the washer with one hand, with the other I had grabbed the softener ball to empty it and put it up. I misjudged and dumped it out over my head. As a result, my hair was static free that day.
LOL! Yeah, I said I was doing three things, not that I was doing all three perfectly... I just thought of something... Wear natural fibers, especially for things on your head, the plastics, polyester, nylon, etc., will just make the static worse.
I've had long hair for ten years, and I can't say I've ever had static. Must be the fog.

The "static" is caused by excessive dryness as found in homes in climates with very cold Winters so that a furnace is going just about all the time so as to stay warm inside. (Everything dries out.) At one time I lived in CT. It was static all Winter. Once some humidity comes back and the temps. outside warm up the static will no longer be a problem. Running something that gives off humidity should help a real lot.
Out here on the West Coast since the late 80's there has never been a case of static that I have run up against.
Well that explains it. Though on the West Coast yourself, you are down in the area where it can get very dry. Since you notice that a little bit of rain is in the air which has gotten rid of the static, perhaps consider a humidifier for the very dry days? My area on the West Coast In OR. luckily always seems to have a tad of moisture to the air, so static has never yet been a problem.
I live in dry cold Wisconsin let me emphasize cold, and i've not had any issues and can't recall ever having any. The only time I can recall a static issue was when I took off a wool sweater and I had static hair for a few minutes but it went away.
I do have a humidifier in the house so that may help.

It's something you run into with low humidity of course, which happens especially in the winter time in places where you have furnaces running and no evaporation outside because the temperature is below freezing.
It's a minor problem for me when I take off a sweater that has built up a charge. If it bothers you, you can run a humidifier indoors, or come up with a way to discharge the static electricity you have built up on you. If you are in a cold climate the problem will probably go away once it warms up outside. BTW, if the prob. is your hair flying around and clinging, you can tie it back.
Thanks for the reply! No tie back for me yet though. I am only 10 months into growth from bald. I figure I have at least another year b4 any kind of tail will look decent. Oh well, gotta crawl before you walk right! LoL
