Although it may not look like it, I am a keen Football and basketball player (Quite tall) But lately (meaning November onwards) I have had increasing difficulty.
In football I start off fine, but within 2 minutes the wind has blown my hair into my eyes, which i have to constantly flick back (like every few seconds) I have fallen more than once because of it, and this is now, whats it gonna be like in a few months.
With basketball i dont have the wind problem, but it still affects me.
it may not seem like a serious problem, but it is. I can see it affecting other things as well.
I dont want to wear anything (not really long enough anyway) and hats are a no no for me, so what do i do, i keep on playing, I wasnt good before i started to grow my hair, but now i'm ten times worse.
And it doesnt seem to affect anyone else, Josh who is basically aty exactly the same length now, has no problems, neither does anyone else.
it is just so frustrating.
I had to vent that, not really aksing for advice i suppose....

Even if you aren't =), here's some advice. Buy an elastic headband. It's not technically a hat. If not, you will get used to the fact that hair is in your eyes. I learned to see through it =).

This may sound silly...but I've had some luck with using the cut off short sleeve of a T-shirt on my head to hold the hair back.
Just cut it off at the seam and stretch/pull it over your head to your neck. Then grab the seam portion and pull it back over your face and head again leaving the hem of the sleeve to trail behind. Pull it until the hem is at your hairline circling around to the nape of your neck. Whala! A hair binding.
Might be worth a try.

You also might look into finding a do-rag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do-rag).
I had similar problems when I was in high school. My solution was to quit sports and start attending more concerts.
Peace
Beanz,
I know what you mean, if you feel uncomfortable wearing things (caps, headbangs and so), try using some gel and comb it backwards, there are some gels that are for sports, I guess it can hold your hair pretty good even if you sweat.
Let me know how it goes.

its funny to me that there seem to be a couple of posts like this recently saying their hair is getting in the way while playing sports. i myself play soccer regularly, and i really love the way my hair is in my face the whole time :)
Use wax or gel for as long as you can. When your hair gets too long for either of those, you can switch to a headband or bandanna. That's certainly what I used to do. By the time it's too long for a headband to do any good, it's usually long enough that you can tie it into at least a half tail. You could even try a segmented half tail, which ends up looking a bit like a French plait, so you may not want to do that. Failing that, a baseball cap isn't too bad.
