how long do you guys reckon it'll be until I have what I want?
Also any hair care tips? I shampoo my hair 2x a day (with normal shampoo), brush it, then let the hair air/sun dry into place.
I don't know what Toms hair looked like. Your hair should grow 1/2 an inch a month. Shampoo only when you need to. Everybody is different. I shampoo once a week and condition twice a week. Use conditioner. Brush and comb gently. Ignore the awkward stage. Just don't cut it.
Welcome to the site, Juan. The length you're wanting to achieve is quite easy, and can probably be accomplished in about a year's time. However, based on your routine, you will absolutely kill your hair if you continue it. Cut way back on the shampooing, as this dries out your hair. Pick out a good conditioner (don't just go for the cheapest stuff on the shelf... do some comparison shopping). Get a quality brush that will thoroughly distribute your scalp's natural oils. Use a wide-toothed comb to detangle your hair once it begins to get longer. And lastly, stay away from scissors and just let your hair grow. Once you get to your desired length, then you can trim and even it up a bit to your desired style.
Though, once you get to that length, you may discover that you'll want to grow it longer. ;)
Anyways, best of luck and hope to see you around the site. =)

Welcome Juan
Well, wouldn't many of us like "Tom Cruise Hair" ? I always thought that the MI2 movie had computer enhancement on some of his "hair shots" The look he had in the movie Samurai seemed more natural.
At any rate you have great hair and with growth will look wonderful. As others have mentioned, you may want to cut back on shampooing and brushing....when you do, you hair will have more body, less frizz.
Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks for the replies. The reason I was 2x a day is because I like to workout at nights and I get sweaty to the point of needing a shower.
Should I try to wear a shower cap? isn't it bad for the hair to keep that sweat overnight?
Don't use shampoo for every washing. Try water only, or conditioner only. If you workout every day, and find the water only doesn't get the sweat out, you can use a shampoo, but follow with conditioner. In the mornings, just do a conditioner-only wash, especially on the ends.
Do not use too much shampoo, for it will be dry and sandy, try washing it with only water before you workout, and use conditioner only after it,try not shampooing too much and good luck in your awkward stage, for it usually takes 8-12 months to pass, but considering your hair type, shouldn't take much long, and it will be easy to grow it out;hats also help during awkward stage.Cya round!
Peace :)
Welcome Juan! 8 months, and you'll have the length you need for that "Cruise" look.
Shampooing 2x daily is a lot, but whatever you do apply a good conditioner after you shampoo. Also you can probably get away with just a very light shampooing.
