I thought you guys might enjoy this. I comes from the book, "The 176 Stupidest Things Ever Done".
On Safety Demonstrations
William Michini was an ex-Philadelphia fireman with a point to prove. He had been fired for having long hair-which the fire department claimed was a safety threat.
Michini decided not to take his dismissal sitting down. Instead, he took his case to federal court.
In court, he argued that his hair didn't interfere with his duties. It wasn't unsafe at all. In fact, he claimed, hair couldn't burn. It was self-extinguishing. To demonstrate his claim, he confidently struck a match and held it to his head.
He set his hair on fire.

Sorry, my humor is a bit twisted. Let me rephrase that, I thought you might find it ironic.(You know, a little funny)
One thing I can say is that the Volunteer rescue squads around here in Virginia don't discriminate against longhairs. I know of several in the squads around here. Doesn't seem to hinder their abilities to take care of the patients. The only requirement for most squads is that it stays tied back while working an emergency call.
