Greetings fellow Longhaired men,
I am pissed!
In the last few days, every time I log on to my online email accounts (both Yahoo and Hotmail), I have been getting this Allstate banner ad that shows a group of "clean cut" people who get rid of a longhaired man as a metaphor to saving 20% off the cost of their insurance premiums.
I wrote to Allstate directly and also to my email providers to protest the ad. I am including the letter I sent, as well as the link to Allstate's feedback form on their website, should any of you want to make your feelings known.
*********************************
I am deeply offended by your ad (20% Less) that depicts a longhaired man as a nuisance to be rid of. I am a respectable bearded, longhaired man in my 50s, and I find your ad campaign disparaging as it reinforces negative perceptions of men like me in the general public. Now this ad is showing up every time I log on to my email accounts. This is too much.
If there ever was any possibility that I would bring my business to Allstate, you now have completely lost that opportunity. There are many online groups of longhaired men on the internet, as there are many longhaired men in the Ojai Valley where I live, a thriving artistic community and tourist destination. I intend to alert these fine gentlemen to your gross insensitivity, and suggest to those who are Allstate customers that they take their business elsewhere.
Regards,
Allstate Feedback Form
I will encourage my parents not to go with these people.
Do you have a link to this advertisement? Or perhaps could you attach an image? Most ads get blocked on my computer so I can't see it.
Thanks,
Peter
...and to think the my house and automobile are both insured by Allstate.
What possessed them to use such a concept?!
I'd change your insurance!
