Hey all - thought you might like to see how my hair ended up on my last vacation? If you are ever anywhere HOT this is the BEST solution! :-)
I've always wanted to have my hair braided like that sometime. But it must be difficult to unbraid the hair, with such tight braids.
actually, it took about a half hr. to get them out. Not bad at all. I had kept them in for over two weeks and was actually suprised at how easy it WAS to get them out. :-) The ladies that did my head used some type of balm, don't ask me what it was, but it seemed to keep eveything in place nicely. I would do it again in a second if I was spending time on the beach. It was soooooo much cooler temp wise! Well, and pretty cool style wise as well. :-)
Hey,
Braids are great to have. I love being able to tumble out of bed in the morning and not having to fool with my hair. Just remember, when
you wash your hair, follow the direction of the way the hair is
bunched, or else you'll end up pulling out a lot of hair. Avoid any
hair care products that contain alcohol; they strip the hair of
moisture, and hair is more fragile when it's braided.
I had all-over braids like Jarujo, but I once had my hair braided to look like the American flag!!! I shit you not!!! (If I ever get the
pictures, I'll post them.)
My friend Omoye does my hair. It usually takes her 3-4 hours to braid
my hair (which is very thick and comes down to between my shoulder
blades), and she usually charges $25-$40, depending on the style,
which is a bargain. Jarujo was right; most places will charge anywhere
from $100-$200 per session! As for taking them out, because my hair is
so frizzy, it usually takes me two days to get them all out. And I get
some really funky buildup where the braids were, so I have to scrub my
scalp real well.
Despite that, I love having them. When I get them done again, I'm
having some red and green woven in for Christmas.
Thanks, and take care of your hair!

I've always wanted my hair like that. how long did it take to braid it? and how much did it cost?
It took about 45 mins with two women doing the braiding. It cost me about $30 - but that was from two gals on a beach in Jamaica. Not to mention, I think they wanted to have a go at my head as they were yelling at me the first time I passed, and then again, as I was heading back I heard..."You! You come here, Second Chance!" :-) I think if you have it done in an actual salon you are looking at some big bucks. From what I hear from other people, I got a HECK of a deal. There were also two girls in our group that had it done in another place and they shelled out over $80 - their hair was just a little longer than mine. I'm not sure if this is right, but I've heard up to $120 in some salons. I guess the rule is, SHOP AROUND or teach a friend to braid! :-)
