I went into the studio to audition to be a movie extra. Anyway this nice lady interviewed me and then told me because of my appereance it makes me more valuable than some of the other men that come in there.
So if all goes well I will no longer be a messenger and now will be a pseudo actor. Or a movie extra. Anyone else done this work, what can I expect from Showbiz.
I know I will most likely never get famous, and that is not my motivation for being a movie extra. It is more like money is the motivation.
That's cool!
My friend's sister was an extra in the storm scene in Forces of Nature starring Ben Affleck, and I know a guy who was a convict extra in O Brother, Where Art Thou?. I don't think they made a whole lot of money, but I they said it was fun. You probably will enjoy the experience. Who can say, maybe a director will "spot" you and put you in his/her next production.
My wife has been an extra in a couple of movies. And, I have friends who have been extras.
It can be a lot of fun...sometimes long hours...but exciting if you get to meet the stars.
Good luck! Please share your stories with us!

They are shooting a movie five blocks from my house for the next two weeks, and the movie is set in the 70's. I should go down there and see if they need any hippies. [grin]
Bill
...if they have those flashbacks from today to back in the 70s.
Most of those who were hippies in the early 70s eventually blended into the
mainstream. Today a businessman in his 50s/60s could be yesteryear's hippy.
I find it fascinating that when people look at someone like you they assume that
you were a hippy who just matured. It's true. As if a hippy was a "different animal"--never changing, just getting a bit older.
Yes, by all means Bill go down there, but be sure and bring with you your famous painting painted by "Claude Justin Monet" as it would make a perfect background prop with you acting in the same room where the picture is hanging. That movie will then skyrocket off the charts! And of course the $$$$$$$ will be nice to have coming in. :-)
That was a great photo of you Bill.
All the best-
Justin~
Well that's an interesting twist!

i was a extra in a movie called 'O Brother Where Art Thou' when i was 12 with my dad in it too, you get fed really good and paid like a hundred bucks haha
A lot of well known actors appeared as extras, but of course most people just go back to doing whatever they were doing. The other night I saw how Mr. T was in The Blues Brothers as an extra during the final chase scene at Daly Plaza. He was this little black, red and blue blob in the background. :)
If you do well as an exta, your next step is a "bit part". I've seen lots of things also where really famous actors had two-line parts as, for example, the waiter in a restaurant scene.
I worked as a longhaired extra years ago (early 1970's). For some movies, having long hair is a plus, but not for most of them. My long hair came in handy for a Disney flick which involved Vikings (Island at the Top of the World). If you are paid the going rate of the Screen Extras Guild, the pay is not bad. Just be sure to bring a book with you to the studio, since you will spend most of the day sitting around. longhair511
