Hello, Ken (et al.)!
As your post is far down on the thread (my fault for not replying to more things more often), I thought I'd let you know that I follow a very similar routine. With winter weather, indoor (hair and skin drying) heating, and curly hair (which is naturally more prone to dryness) I notice a HUGE difference when I don't condition it out to wazoo! (My hair gets bigger -poofier- looking, more dry to the touch and the ends tangle up more easily.
I've always been generous with conditioner, but I think I realize more now than I did at the start of the journey over 21 months ago that I need LOTS of conditioner.
I use warm water to start (and to warm up after waking up); softening the hair and letting me soften the scruff where I shave.
I add a gob of conditioner running my fingers through my hair and then I let some water run through my hair (which carries conditioner down the strands to the tips), but I don't rinse it all out.
I then add a second, generous helping which I comb through with a wide-tooth paddle brush that I've found just great for my thick, curly hair - better than a pick, even! (My head is not under the flow of water at this point.)
I switch to cool water before a somewhat more thorough (but not completely thorough) rinsing out of the leftover conditioner.
I then apply either a touch of conditioner OR some curly-hair product meant as a leave in and de-frizzer as I gently squeeze out the excess water from my ringlets.
I wet my hands, put some gel on them and rub them together giving my hair a top-down, not-too-generous bit of gel to keep the fly-aways and frizz at bay. My hair hasn't been as soft as this ever. I also only shampoo if I see product or dry scalp starting to cake. Less than once a week.
The support and info here have been great, so thanks to everyone!
(Now I should stop procrastinating and get back to writing report cards for the wee children.)
HEY, HAIR TWIN. xDDDD
I just leave Conditioner in for an hour and wash it out. Works for me. ^_^
When I feel I need it, I slick my hair full of conditioner after I get out of the shower, slap on a couple of Bandanas (so all my hair is enclosed) and I sleep on it. I'v ealso done that with oil and honey treatments, too, though I smell like a breakfast item and it is a little sticky on the pillow if it seeps through.
(Great to find my hair twin!)
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
Ugh, I hate that.
Sometimes I do honey treatments where I replace it with molasses, and when it drips out...ugh. E_E
Mr Crow, Wonderful curls, stache and goat!
peace, jonalbear
Thank you very much!
(I am very glad I made the decision to grow my hair out!)
Shawn
Hi Shawn,
As always, it is a genuine pleasure to get an update from you, and your hair continues to amaze me in your it just keep getting better all the time. Your ringlets are so well defined and filled with shine, and I am delighted that you have found a routine that works for you. Keep those Manlocks growing, and say hi to Holly for me.
Take care,
David
Thanks, David. I think this routine is working well and I will keep it until it doesn't.
I was looking through some of my internet favourites and I came across a website that I thought you'd get a kick out of. Heck! you might have been the one to share it with me. It is about long-haired scientists.
Luxuriant Flowing Hair Club for Scientists
Hi Shawn,
Thank you for mentioning this website! In fact, one of my fellow members already submitted a nomination for me to be admitted into that group of scientists about 2 months ago. Since I have not heard back from them yet, I assume the nomination was not accepted for some reason.
Take care,
David
Thank you very much!
Shawn
So glad that you have found what works best for yourself and does it EVER show. Your hair has the greatest shine to it and looks simply fabulous!
Gosh, thanks!
;)
Shawn
Oh Mr Crow, what amazing hair you have!
Great to see you back at the ranch, looking ace - now get back to it!
~ Dave
Thanks for the compliment, Dave. I appreciate it.
Shawn
BTW, I'm STILL working at these report cards! I love being a teacher: Two months off in the summer? Yes. The equivalent number of working hours spread out over the other ten months? Usually. No job I'd rather have, though.
Alas, I think sleep is optional tonight.
Hey Mr. Crow,
So nice to hear from you!! And if there's one thing that turns me totally green w/ envy, it's the folks like you, Shawn, that have all those beautiful, shiny, AMAZING curls!!!!
Anyway, I just got back from my week down in Tucson, so it was fun reading your thread...
Now, get back to work grading those papers, Mr. Crow (lol)!!
- Ken
Thanks for the compliment, Ken. I hope Tuscon was great. (How much conditioner did you have to use to keep your hair moisturized there?)
Only 14 more report cards to go. I might get to bed by 2AM.
Cheers!
Shawn
...I cannot shampoo my hair because it would be impossible to comb through.
Conditioner is good for the hair so there's nothing wrong with using LOTS and LOTS of it!!!
My thoughts exactly. If I shampoo without conditioning, I can barely run my fingers through the curly mane, let alone a comb. Conditioner is a great product.
