My hair is real fine, wavy, and fragile. I've been told to try conditioner and leave in conditioners. I'm wondering if I could overdue it though and cause more damage to my hair...is conditioner buildup a concern?

Anything can build up when put on hair if too much is used or over time.
As long as you wash your hair once a month or more with a sulfate (sodium laureth or lauyrl sulfate) shampoo, it won't do any harm at all.
Be aware that most leave ins contain silicones which can build up and cause problems, but if your hair type likes them, no biggie.
I'd ask on the longhaircommunity.com as well. ^^ They're big on this topic.
It's a concern (or should be) I think for everyone. Conditioners do what they do by adding a coating and after N days of daily use, that's going to add up. When you have too much, your hair should be dull and lifeless. You'll eventually learn how to tell when that's happened. As with too much paint on a house, it has to be stripped off so you can start over. To do that, use a clarifying shampoo, which will remove the built up condx and leave no residue. Then you can start the conditioning cycle over. Suave Daily Clarifying is a good product for this.
Yeah, Suave Daily Clarifying shampoo is a good choice because it works well, and it's only $1, which is VERY cheap compared to most clarifying shampoos.
thanks for all the info...very informative. I'll be looking at clarifying shampoos now.
