I'll be on TV in Canada on Thursday night on the CBC-TV network. The program is called "The Nature of Things with David Suzuki". It airs at 8 o'clock in Toronto (Eastern Time) but I don't know when it will be broadcast in other time zones. It is a science program that will be talking about vision, and the segment with me will discuss face blindness.
They flew down here to San Francisco to tape me in August, so the images you see there of me will be five months old. They shot it in high definition, and if they air it like that, you will probably be able to see every strand on my head.
Bill
You seem to be quite the celebrity now Bill!
Congratulations. Btw, is 8 o'clock PM or AM?
Hi Bill,
That is great news! I get CBC-HD out of Toronto on my satellite system here in Nova Scotia, so I will make a note to be sure to watch it!
David
David, would you be able to record it and upload, even to a private server for us?
David,
You need to record this! I don't get Canadian TV. Anyone got an FTP server handy with ample bandwidth?
I do get am470 out of Toronto on my old 1940s Tube Tabletop set. :-)

My Sansui 2000 picked it up too, but the vintage 40s music was more appropriate on the Tube set as it was from the correct era. :-)
Hi Juli414 and Mike,
I have to apologize, but I don't have any way of recording high definition television myself. I don't even use a VCR any more. I do have a PVR (not HDTV) on my other standard defintion TV, but don't know how to get a show from a PVR to my computer, or have any idea how to upload something that big to a server. Perhaps there are other Canadians, or those close to the border who can pick up the CBC, who might have ideas. Perhaps Bill, if he was actually on that show, might have a copy of it.
David
David,
I didn't even think of the possibility of Bill grabbing a tape of his appearance from the studio. I wonder if they would let him do that?
Do you need a VCR? I have several. :-) I rarely use my VCR after getting the DVD player years ago. I do admit, it is handy when you want to tape something of TV.
Mike
Hi Mike,
Sorry, no real need for a VCR, lol! I watch most stuff on DVD these days (a fairly large collection of movies and TV series on DVD), otherwise, I watch satellite TV, and occasionally use the asssociated PVR to "time shift" shows that are on TV at an hour I am either sleeping, doing something else, or not home. My HDTV satellite receiver is a non recording model.
Thanks for the offer!
David
...........I wonder if whoever made Bills last video could possibly do this one? It would REALLY be appreciated a whole lot and all of we guys would love to watch it.
Sure wish I knew how to do it. Alas!
Justin~
I'd be happy to do it again if someone wants to send me a copy.
Bruce
They are going to mail me a DVD of it after the show airs. It was recorded over the summer, taping various people in various places, and this month it has all been put together in Toronto. I know what I said, of course, but I don't know how much of it they will use, nor do I know what will be said in conjunction with what I say.
I don't have a copy of it, for one thing, because it is probably being put together this week. That is the way the broadcasting industry works. For another thing, they would not release a copy of it before it aired. That is how stuff shows up in places like YouTube or on shelves with bootlegged material.
This means my friends in Canada will see it before I do. Let me know how it turns out!
Bill
Our own "Celebrity Bill" ! Congrats again Bill!
Bruce
Bill, I hope you get to see it--you should see it if anyone. I wish we could get CBC TV down here.
This program comes on sometimes on the "Discovery Science Channel" in the US as I have seen it several times. I don't know times or airing dates, but I'm sure their website would state such.
I'll try to catch it Bill! Thanks!
What a fascinating program! There was actually quite a bit of footage of you, Bill and all of it great. Thanks for sharing this side of your life with us (and the [Canadian viewpoint of the] world).
I recorded the program on my PVR and will watch it again. (Wow! Only one degree of separation here: I know Bill; featured on the Nature of Things!.
Congrats! (First Wired now this icon of Canadian TV...)
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
Hi Shawn,
Thanks for the report, and I'm glad it came out so well! I look forward to seeing it when I get a copy in a couple of weeks.
A friend from Vancouver who has visited with us often called tonight. He said it was great to see our home in the program (a place he is familiar with) as well as a scene of me on a hill overlooking San Francisco, with my beard blowing in the wind!
