I was reading something on this page and the utilikilt thing came up what is it?
A question for all the scotts on this board. Do you get any
hassles about wearing a skirt? Any more so than wearing
your hair long?
I'm NOT Scots, but I wear two different tyes of kilts, the traditional
Greek 'Foustanella' and the Utilikilt. To answer the first question,
go to www.utilikilts.com.
As for the second question, I'd say the 'hassle' factor of wearing a
kilt, skirt, whatever you want to call it, is about the same as long
hair. Most of the time, it's a non-event, although people *do* tend
to look at you as you *do* stand out. Women in particular seem to like it, men are 50/50 split, half admire your guts, but wouldn't wear
one themselves, the other half feel threatened. Probably about the
same as bi-lateral dangle earrings.
I think the combination of a kilt (of whaever variety), long hair,
and earrings makes for a very elegant, yet very masculine look. Sure
beats a suit-and-tie!
Try it, you'll like the comfort and freedom of movement.

"Skirting the issue," hehe. You must be quite a loser to come up with a pun like that. lol
Is I guess the easiest way to explain it. They are great. Basically, it looks like a traditional scottish kilt, knee-length, pleats, etc. But they have pockets and a fly like a pair of work pants. They started with an olive drab, and a tan color, and have created many other styles since then, from camo, hawaiian, black, etc. Check out their site

One thing is for certain, and that is the only garment I have ever work that combines both confort and good looks into one. I always thought that was a contradiction in terms! and like said earlier, they go great with long hair!!!

A Utilikilt (Uk for short) is a modern interpretation of the "classic" Scottish kilt. The Utilikilt company up in Seattle, Washington makes these things. Most of their lines comes in a heavy duck cloth (canvass) and mainly black or tan in color. They offer a bunch of different types of Uk's. The main differences being what they are made of and the features they include.
The garment itself is comfortable and a real kick to wear. Due to its very large and very handy pockets a Uk is also rather practical.

I bought one back in September and really like it.
Madoc
And that is why it is called a UTILIkilt!
By the way, the topic strayed from long hair to kilts. I know of several web sites that have pages for both kilts and long hair!
