I've tried braiding my shoulder length thin wavy hair but failed. How long should your hair be to braid and would you braid your hair while wet?

i think your lenght is perfect for a very nice french braid, and if u braid it while wet, the inside part will never dry.
I wouldnt braid it WET......just dampen it a little right before your broaid it to help keep the frizzies under controll. Your hair is agreat length to start braiding.

Hi Marty,
You certainly have the right length of hair to be starting braiding and as the others have said don't braid it wet but dampening it a bit would certainly help. I'm sure or resident braiding experts Franny or Jason will offer some advice.

Your hair is absolutely long enough to braid. It won't be a very long braid obviously, but you can definitely do it.
Braiding very wet hair is never a good idea, as the hair is so elastic when wet, which can lead to breakage when it dries. I am aware that your are trying to avoid that.
Dampening your hair slightly or using aloe vera gel can give you just enough grip for your braid to hold nicely. I often use a mister with water and a bit of aloe gel, lightly spray and then braid.
You might want to try Willie Nelson-type double braids, which might be even easier at your length.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Braiding your hair while wet WON'T damage your hair, and it WILL dry out inside. But I would only recommend it if you have straight hair. When you take out the braid after it dries, you'll have some nice braid waves. If you already have waves, you might have confusion.
