I keep seeing things about avoiding and trimming split ends but if my hair is growing from my scalp why does it matter? Is it just a matter of hair health or will it hinder growth...?
---------------
In my barbering textbook, it says:
"Correcting Split Ends
Trichoptilosis (tri-kop-ti-LOH-sis) is the technical term for split hair ends. When the hair becomes dry and brittle, the hair ends split. Temporary relief for this condition may be obtained by cutting the hair ends."
. . . and that's it . . . doesn't say what evils befall those who don't have 'em cut. Some folks feel that if you don't cut 'em they will continue to split, others say that's nonsense. Probably (IMHO) the hair will continue to split if you keep abusing it (excessive blow drying, too much heat, too many bad chemicals, etc), and if you take care of it, it won't.
