First, I want to thank everyone who responded to my goal-length post of last week. I really do appreciate all the encouragement I've received from everyone here over the years.
I was going to change my avatar pic from the one shown above; however, yesterday my beloved 16 year old Miniature Pinscher, Sarah, had to be put to sleep after suffering very rapid kidney failure, so that's going to have to wait, since this is one of very few pictures I have of her. Goodbye, my dear friend.
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved pet. I know how you feel as back in 1994 I had to make the decision to put to rest my peek-a-poo Jennifer due to kidney failure also. I never thought I could make such a decision, but she was suffering so that I wanted her to be at peace. The hardest part was that as I held her, it took 3 injections from the vet before she finally let go and went to sleep. I miss her.
May my thoughts and prayers be with you at this time.
Karsten
I'm so sorry for the loss of your pet. IT's hard to lose someone you've known and cared for for so long, even if it's 'just a pet' (bull).
I'll be heartbroken if/when my cat dies.
Sincerest condolences, Randy. May your grief be short, and soon replaced with only fond memories.

I am very sorry at the loss of your little friend. I do understand the pain that you feel as I have been there myself.

Condolences from myself and all the furry critters around here.

Hi Randy,
All my deepest sympathy on the loss of your four legged friend. This past fall, we said goodbye to our 14 year old Boston Terrier who grew up with our eldest. Each of our children got a dog when they were between 5-8, and this was the eldest of three dogs.
Losing her was losing a family member.

You have my sympathies. It's never easy to make that choice. Just think of seeing her at the Rainbow Bridge.
Hi Randy. my condolences on your pinscher Sarah. :-( I had a brown Dobey named...of all things Max years ago and when he was put to sleep I was very moved. Hang in there. Even now when I have to occasionally euthanize my pet fish (I don't do the toilet flush thing) it bothers me so I know where you are coming from.
Better days ahead.
Max
I'm really sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my dog in June of 2005 at age 16. I still miss him to this day.
If only people showed the same degree of loyalty as dogs, the world would be a much better place.

Hey Randy man, I'm literally crying in sympathy for Sarah as I wrie this, ya see, I'd lost a well-loved family dog myself, a 5ive-years-old McNab bitch named K'Ehlyer, whom I lost to a speeding car (curses upon them!) when she, in her magnificent mind, raced into traffic during rush hour as she thought that she wuzz protecting me and my family fr. a red-tail'd hawk and a grey broad-shoulder'd hawk worrying a heron SIXTY FEET UP, wehyull, my sympathies are w/ you, Randy.
I know you'll make a new friend, man. Here's my new one, Embla, a Harrier hund / Alaskan husky bitch, three years young. Peace to Sarah, man. I know she's waiting in Summerland now and lookin' forwards ta bein' w/ you again.
Yours for the lost loved ones and longhair'd camaraderie,

The McNab breed, for anyone so interested . . .
You have my sympathy. You can take comfort in knowing your
dear friend will be waiting for you in good health at Rainbow
Bridge. When had eo put my cat to sleep last year in her honor
I went down to the animal rescue league and adopted another cat.
You'll always cherish the memories you have of your beloved pet,
you can take comfort in knowing you did what you had to do.
I'm so sorry for for your loss Randy. I've lost many dogs over the years and it breaks my heart each time. Each one of them was unique, special in their own way, as Sarah was to you. She was lucky to have you in her life.

Hi Randy,
I am genuinely sorry to hear about this loss of your beloved pet, and my heart goes out to you. Although I have not had a pet for many years, I remember that day that our family had to put down our beloved pug, "Mr. Jiggs", after he had blessed our lives for 14 years.
Take care,
David
I'm sorry for your loss, Randy. Remember her well.

I'm sorry to hear about your little friend. That is very hard to lose any pet, but especially when you've known one for so long. They are just like a family member. One of my dogs got hit by a car a while back, and this was very sad.
I would certainly keep the picture up to honor her.

Thank you all so much for your sympathy. So many people think pets are just animals. My pastor and I have debated as to whether there are dogs in heaven. I always say if there ain't dogs, then it ain't heaven!
I'm truly sorry for your loss, Randy.
As I was reading the various responses to your post, it slowly came into my awareness that my daughter was singing quietly across the room. She is growing up in a home where we are always singing and making up music to accompany our activities, so it is not unusual, but when I turned around to appreciate her voice, it was then that I noticed that she was singing to our pug, Chaucer, who was resting on the couch.
I then understood in a new a different way what I had already known: pets allow us to explore a side of our emotional being that no person could. And it is because of that special connection that a grief for a pet may seem, to our rational minds, to be more than warranted for "just an animal". Well, FouWee, I say! It is not only the animal we are saying goodbye to, but also to that special, singular aspect of ourselves that we were allowed to develop and explore in the relationship between ourself and the pet.
I am very sad that you must now face this grief; the last, deep emotional exploration that Sarah shared with you. Remember her well and carry the lessons of the heart that she has helped you to learn into all your relationships.
Sending you all my best wishes,
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
Sorry to hear that Randy, its always tough when you lose a loyal friend - we have two dogs at home and they are so much a part of the family.
Take care, Dave
