I've always had my hair in a crew cut and I've decided to grow it out...It's to the point now where I need a haircut or I have to let it go (which I'm going to do)...but my question is what is the best way to deal with the awkward phase where your hair not long enough yet too long at the same time and it just looks messy??
Well we've all been through the awkward stage and each of us had different hair types and have to deal with it different ways. Perhaps a bandana, hair gel or a hat would help.
Perhaps you could post a picture so we can see.
The best secret of grat longhair is just to let it grow.

Oh that awkward phase. There really isn't a great way around it. If you are a hat person it can make it easier by wearing one. I found that I had to part my hair at my cowlick until the hair was heavy enough to part where I wanted it to. Sometimes it best to just let your hair go which way it wants until it's long enough to be kept under control. Just tough it out, once you reach pony tail length it's smooth sailing for whatever length you have as your goal.
I dealt with the awkward phase with a hat. I have always tried to avoid putting any kind of "stuff" in my hair...gel, spray, etc...because the hair that you mess up stays with you longer than having short hair.
I'm learning you just have to find out what works good for you. My bangs were cut short this past summer and have since grown down to my nose and curl and flip everywhere. I do my best to tuck them behind my ears. I think we (the hair growers) stress over our looks more than the way others really see us.

Everyone has pretty much summed it up, it is something you just have to weather and see it through, its there, its not going to go until its long, so trimming isn't going help - it will just prolong it. Me? I just left it as messy as possible.

easy Patience is the best way to grow your hair out from short to long and keep away from the clippers n Scissors to.
As the awkward stage is a trying time to see if you crack under the pressure of growing your hair if you survivor you will reap the rewards of being a long hair GOOD LUCK
