The other thread had me wondering... What diets would be good for people with long hair? I having recently gained some weight over this past winter I'd like to try losing some without starving myself and it affecting my hair somehow.
Throw out everthing made with refined while flour. Replace entirely with wholegrains. Learn to love whole wheat/whole grain pasta, brown rice (Basmati is da bomb!), whole grain breads, baked goods, cereal, etc. Whole grains make you feel fuller, so you eat less. Whole grains are a rich natural source of B Vitamins and nutritious oils, all necessary for good hair health. Drink plenty of water or other non-sugar laden beverage with your whole grain food. tudies show that people who eat whole grain foods, and eliminate processed carbs, lose weight, and keep it off. The weight loss will be slow and gradual, but you WILL lose. I have lost 75 lbs this way. No effort, no starving, no calorie counting. I loosely follow The Zone by Dr. Spears. http://www.zonediet.com/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx

I have waist length hair and when I lost 60 pounds in the past year I did it on the HMR diet. It basically consists of cutting calories, getting excercize every day, eating 5
servings of fruit and veggies. The nice thing about this diet
is with all the food you eat you'r never hungry but you
continue to loose weight.
Yea I found out about this diet a year and a half ago and it helped me lose 90 pounds :-) plus it seems to not affect my hair. Keep in mind that I did start growing my hair out about 10 months ago. But it's nice and soft and doesn't seem to have damage.
High Protein, Low carbs...
Just eat chicken breasts and tuna all day, only eat carbs at breakfast. Do this is 100x sure way to lose weight, but i you have to be a big fan of tuna and chicken to handle it lol x).
u have to remember not to eliminate fats...
monounsaturated fats r very important for any healthy diet. i went on a diet once, and had major hair fall out. i wasnt getting enough fat. my skin went dry and my nails even started breaking. i increased the "good" fat intake and made sure i was getting enough protein. made a world of difference.
the most effective way to lose weight is to up your metabolism. the easiest way to accomplish that is to eat every three hours that you are awake (starting within an hour of waking). nothing big, just enough to feel full. and drink a lot of water. the more water you drink, the more fat and other impurities you flush out of your system. just make sure you are keeping the right amount of good nutrients going in.
i started doing this years ago. i lost forty pounds, and my energy level is super high. i have to walk during my breaks at work or i go crazy from all the access energy making my jittery.
