Hey all.
I've just passed 10 months of hair growth, since my last hair cut in April. This is great, although sadly I think I'm going to have to cut some of it off (I don't want to - this isn't another attention seeking spam thread!). My school unfortunately does not permit long hair, and the pressure has built up for me to get a hair cut. The other day I was asked by a teacher if I was going to get a hair cut over the holidays. Although I could try concealment techniques, I don't think I'll be able to do this as no 'excess' gelling is allowed either, and from what I've seen, these techniques need quite a bit of gel. I think it would look pretty obvious what I was trying to do anyway - and probably draw more attention to me.
I've come to the conclusion that it's in my best interests to get some of it cut off, although I definitely won't be going to my local barber (he has a shaved head!). Luckily my mom knows how to cut hair properly, so I'll probably get her to cut it (although it might be hard to trust her too!). My hair is wavy/slightly curly (although pretty curly at the back), and I'm concerned that there may be not be much noticeable difference if I get some of it cut off - but I want to avoid cutting a lot off. What I want to know is, should I get all of my hair cut (by maybe an inch?), or mostly the back? What would you do if you were in my circumstance? Luckily I finish school completely in June, so don't worry, I will be letting my hair grow unhindered after then!
Thank you. And thanks to the people at this message board for inspiring me (I've been lurking since early September).
Lee.
Hey Lee
I Personally, would keep the Hair as it is! your leaving in 4 months anyway, so Whats the big deal with the school, I Find it hard to beleive that schools and Work places have these sort of attitudes its 2008 man!
I Dont want you to get in trouble, But Be a Rebel dont give in for the sake of 4 months, They dont like long hair? so whats the difference of letting a girl have long hair? None what so ever, They dont like Excessive Gel? do They want you to be bald?, Just keep it as you are.

Some schools, usually Private ones, would suspend him until he gets it cut. And if his parents don't approve of it and don't transfer him,he'd have to cut it anyway.
I'd just cut the back.
My impression from high school was that most of the time school dress codes and guidelines are there because someone liked 'clean cut' students, or because someone had an ax to grind with a certain counter-culture and wanted to remove their identifying features from the allowed attire.
My suggestion is to approach the faculty - either a likely sympathetic teacher who will go to bad for you, or the school head (and nobody else - vice principals of all flavors are not to be trusted.)
Explain your position, express a desire to understand the reasoning behind the existing position. Self-determination and finding one's identity are strong themes in that whole growing up thing; if you state your case well there's a decent chance you can get an exemption and get the issue raised at the next faculty meeting. If nothing else, you will make a favorable and lasting impression on the faculty, which is always a good thing.
I would say to get an inch cut off all over, cause by the time June roles around, Your hair will be back to the same length and maybe a little healthier with no split ends.
What would you do if you were in my circumstance?
Cut as little as needed to be in compliance untill June, 4 months or so is like 2 or 3 inches. Or spend thousands of dollars to fight it as a civil case.
Thanks for all of your advice. I'll be getting about an inch cut off, and then will see how that looks. And yes, I go to a private school so leaving it uncut is really not an option anymore; and Quester, I'll chose the former option :P
