Hey, does anyone know of a really good detangler?
My hair is to the point where it tangles so much that it's impossible for a comb to make it through, without showering first and using tons of conditioner. I recently discovered the kids type of hair detangler, and I've been using that, but I'm sure there must be something better. I don't see any other kind of detangler in any stores.
I don't mind ordering online but I'd rather it not be too pricy, as I'll be using alot.

I also tried all kinds of conditioners, most of them did not work very well.
Now I am using the best conditioner I found (Rausch wheat germ) and after each shower a mixture of oils. As long as I apply only a very small amount (2..3 drops) to the damp hair, it does not get oily at all. Instead, they oil is being absorbed and the hair becomes real smooth and silky.
Even more, my hair is very healthy now, almost no splits any more. Before that, I was seriously thinking of trimming it for about 10 inches!
If you are interested, I can give you the ingredients for that oil. They should be easily available online.
Paul Mitchell's "The Detangler". That's the product's name. lol.
It works like a charm... if you buy it in bulk it's much cheaper than the regular retail size. You just have to call so they will get you some. It's a salon only product. Try it... it's well worth the price.
I just found this product at my local CVS.
You might want to try Nexxus Humectress Luxe. It is a leave in conditioner that sprays on. Once you do get the tangles out it will keep your hair very soft and tangle resistant. It smells really good too. You can get it at most Wal-Mart stores. I use it while my hair is still damp and it helps all day. Furthermore, it works very well in conjunction with the entire line of Nexxus products.

I really like the detangler from the dryhair formula line from Lanza.
The detangler that was of help to me was just as yours. For kids. And am I ever a big kiddy! (Meow.) LOL
There comes a point, and you may be at it,(only a guess)where the hair is very long (such as yours) that split-ends should be looked for as they can cause tangles, knots and snarles like you wouldn't believe! In my case nothing did the trick except for one thing, that being to have a professional examine and erase the problem so that finger-combing followed by a wide toothed comb will make it a breeze to go right through you hair with ease. Yes, it may cost you and inch or so, but it is well worth it and having long hair will no longer start to be as you have described.
Good luck in finding another product that helps alot with this problem. But, if it still doesn't help at this point, a visit to a Salon (and getting someone sensitive to do what you desire) will make all the difference between night and day.
You're totally right, this is what really needs to happen--but I haven't found any professionals on simply "cutting the split ends off" instead of just chopping 2-3 inches off. Most people just look at me funny when I ask them if they're any good at searching for and cutting only the split ends off.
Split end "dusting", cutting only enough hair to leave a dusting of hair on the floor, isn't something professionals would do for you because it is hugely time consuming. It is something you do yourself or have a friend do for you while you enjoy the time together talking, listening to music, or having a familiar movie they don't have to see running in the background.
As for a good detangler, a few drops of a silicone serum spread on my palms then run down the length is what I do if I want to wear my hair loose. By coating the strands it gives me the plastic hair of a Barbie doll and certainly reduces the tangles.

Peg, I've been using Pantene Pro V Combing creme. After a shower while my hair is still damp, I apply a bit to my fingers and then finger comb my hair out, working out any tangles as I go. I don't know what I would do without it even though I use plenty of conditioner. Once I have finger combed enough, I use a wide tooth comb to finish. Thankfully, it doesn't take too much time to do this.

I use Pantene detangler but only when I use a clarifying shampoo. it's a big help.
