Well, for those of us who have wavy/curly/in between hair ( damn genetics, damn it straight to afganistan )...is it even worth having long hair?
What is you guys' opinion on that?
I am growing out my hair, but it is very dry, and in between curly and wavy...and the only time my hair looks decent is when it is wet. As soon as it dries out, it puffs out and just looks horrid. Any other curly long haired folks here with this type of issue? What did you do to fix it? Or did you just go with the short cut that curly hair deserves?

In my case, I have rather wavy hair, that looked like crap when it was short. Too curly to stay in place, but not curly enough to stay in place, if you know what I mean. Now that it is long, the waviness is an asset. The weight of the hair straightens it out, yet it has character.

Go for it!

Depending on how long it is (6" or longer) you might consider having it straightened with thio (perm solution, not relaxer). I asked my instructors about this the other day, and they said it's possible to put perm solution on hair, hold it straight (instead of wrapping it on rods) for 20 minutes or so, then apply the neutralizer . . . it'll take most of the curl/wave out, and won't be near as harsh as the relaxer will.
There is a form of thio that comes in a cream consistency that is a bit stronger than regular perm solution which will help weigh the hair down into 'submission' . . .
Anyway, I mention this because you might consider having this done to the first few inches (not too many stylists are familiar with this proceedure, so look around for one who is), then as the rest of the hair grows out, you can tie it back into a tail, or maybe just let the weight of the hair pull it down into a straight mane.
You might try experimenting with various "goops" and gels on your hair . . . I have a bit of a wave, and a dab of a "shine" product (usually a clear liquid with cyclomethicone or some other -cone product) will fix it up.
Good luck,

Another thing I am worried about is the mullet look. I don't know, it just doesn't seem like it's well liked by people. =)
Anyway, back to your suggestions. About the perm at the salon and stuff, how often is that stuff repeated? I would hate to have it done every month or worse every week or something.

Perm? Just once should do it, assuming it's done right (that's why it's called a "permanent"). New growth will come out curly, but the weight of the already permed hair should tend to pull it straight.
