Personally I enjoy being different but I know that there are
times when I have to be more "normal" in appearance. Mainly
for work as its no fun being broke and having bills to pay.
From the viewpoint of stuffed shirt "normal" people which do
you all here on the board think looks worse, long hair or
style of clothes? I almost always keep my hair fairly neat.
I do like to get wild and crazy with my clothes but I try to
tone it down for work.
I would like to know the opinion of the people here.
I would think from a work standpoint both keeping your hair neat and toning down your clothes would be appropriate. The fact that you find an employer willing to hire a longhair without discrimination should be reciprocated with your willingness to present a professional appearance in other areas.
Since you put it that way I suppose that would be the fair thing
to do.
If you work in a gas station or on a farm, you'll have more leeway with personal grooming than if you work in a bank.
People in banking and other stuffy businesses have told me that you pick ONE way to rebel. If you have long hair, keep it clean and pulled back in a pony-tail or braid, and just the fact that you have long hair means you need to be very conservative in dress. Short-hairs can do their rebellion with loud socks or wacky ties.
Long hair on anyone presents issues. No one wants a hair in their food, and long hair can get caught in machinery. In dealing with customers, long hair in your face makes it seem like you have something to hide. These are true for men and women.
I'm not saying this is right, but this is how it is.
