Well, I am now at the stage (awkward) where I need gel. Any recommendations of brands that work best?
Michael
I don´t know any specific brands. However, I do know that you are supposed to avoid brands with alcohol in it. Because that will dry out your hair!
Anything with alcohol DENAT you should avoid.
Ceytl alcohol is actually an agent that draws in moisture and won't dry out the hair, I believe.
Thanks for all of the suggestions.
You guys have great suggestions. But where do you get good aloe gels like Fruit of the Earth and conditioners with only ceytl alcohol? Also any suggestions on how to find a hair stylist that will listen to someone with long hair? THANKS!
Micheal have you tried Pomade instead of the gel? The good thing about the Pomade is that it's plyable and doesn't leave your hair stiff or stiff looking. You can run your hands thru your hair without getting the poof look which especially important during the awkward phase. Just a thought.

how long is ur hair? gels can get gucky =/
i like the pomade idea, there r also a few hair clays that
might help =D
It is about an inch or so over my ears and almost t-shirt collar length in the back. I'm going to try pomade. Thanks Aubrey.
Consider 100% aloe vera gel (the clear kind, without any other additives) - I use Fruit-of-the-Earth brand. It does dry out some people's hair, but for me, it works great, and also rinses out clean, leaving no gunk behind.

Thanks Jim. Maybe I can mix it with pomade.
